A chore more than anything else
I have tried really hard to like this game - but after two full play-throughs of NWN 2 and MotB, as well as two half play-throughs of SoZ I can finally say that I don't like this game at all. * Music: The game recycles some tracks of NWN 1. I don't know any other rpg that does this and it is irritating. The original tracks are a mixed bag. There are a few stand-outs that are wonderful and emotionally gripping, however there are also tracks that are really annoying * Graphics: There is not a single good looking location in the entire game. Everything is dark green/grey/brown with nothing standing out in any way. The game is visually depressing. That may be intentional, but it's not pleasant to play. Apart from that, the towns and areas seem to have been built with a third person perspective in mind, however the game is virtually unplayable in tpp. * Balancing: Having played all of the IE games countless times as well as other D&D adaptions I can easily say that this is the worst example of balancing in any rpg I've met thus far. There are really mean difficulty spikes on seemingly trivial battles, while others that should be difficult turn out to be really easy and it's hard to read what you're doing right or wrong. * Controls: The horror! There are multiple control schemes, most of them are literally unplayable. The only one that works kind of is the strategic view after heavy tweaking and key-rebinding. * Leveling: While there are vast options for developing your character's skills, the game does a very poor job of visualizing which feats lead to what other feats and classes. * Level design: Boxes and mazes - very unbelievable and not fun Good sides * The story of MotB is phenomenal * Character creation offers so many options (albeit the feat system is convoluted and hard to read) * Content: The game is quite long, which is great if you enjoy what's there All in all I really cannot recommend this game. It's a chore to play and offers way to little.
