I waited a long time to get the game, because I knew it would have issues. I even knew what those issues would be. I knew that many would never be resolved, because many of the same issues were never resolved with their last title.
Pros: the battlefields are attractive, things are better detailed, and many things work. The company has slowly been improving play, as you would expect 10 years in.
Cons: The game is horribly repetitive. In fact, there aren't enough adverbs to describe how utterly horribly repetitive the game is. Ugly, ugly characters. The map is unrecognizable as Calradia. The GUI and controls are clunky. The game itself is clunky. The price is abusive. The fanboys are abusive. Most of the mods don't work, and a lot of the modding community has simply abandoned the game.
Refelection: well.... I don't know if you're allowed to have an EA title for $50 and after 10 years of development. Perhaps one day, thiis game will be exceptional... but not today.
Today, when I removed, DL, verified, and reinstalled a new version, the game no longer worked. It had worked perfectly previously. Yes, I've walked through all the checks and fixes, but it simply doesn't work. $50 for an EA title that doesn't even work.
I'm asking for a refund, but since CDProjekt took over, I doubt I'll get one.
A year in early access... and there is still critical bug, On 4 different campaign i played and each time i ended up with a ctd, same error each time from the native module. I m not a programmer but i tried to figure out what i did that break the game but i give up, on the last campaign i had save from nearly 20h before the bug and each time i ended up with the same ctd. I tried repairing/reinstall/ different hard drive on those 4 campaign, i tried.
The game is fine despite the lack of feature that make the previous mount and blade great and i really enjoyed my first campaign but knowing that i will get stuck again killed it for me.
I'm hoping that the report i send will provide insight and leading to a fix but until then i will stay away from it.
Just saw that it got updated so I redownloaded this after a long time and tried The Old Realms from moddb. Great game, incredible mod. The instructions on steam workshop and the comments on moddb will tell you how to get it going if you have the patience and half an hour.
If you haven't tried it yet, the base game is good. My only gripe was having to hunt for companions and only getting ones with gimped stats you can't improve. I also didn't like the hoops you have to jump through, waging war on your own people, just to get a city you can manage properly. But if you are looking for a reason to hop back in and have any interest in Warhammer Fantasy, give TOR a try.
