Awesome version of a great game, nGlide is included so you can play it at higher resolutions on modern hardware, and everything is there even the music!! The textures haven't aged well on this version in my opinion, but it's totally playable start to finish and the core game itself is pretty damn fun.
Ignoring Mortal Kombat Gold, this GoG release is arguably the best home version of MK4. There wasn't any need to configure anything to get the game running nicely. The FMVs play perfectly without any audio stutter, which was an issue I had with the original PC version on modern hardware. The game looks and somehow feels better than I remember it on PC. I've even managed to get my PS4 controller to work flawlessly by using Steam's overlay.
I'm really hoping and praying this unexpected GoG release was NRS testing the waters to see if it's worth porting an arcade-perfect version of MK4 Revision 3 to modern systems via a new Arcade Kollection. I'm begging you NRS: Please give us a perfect emulation of Rev 3 soon!
Not the best in the series, but any game where you get to throw/punch someone into the computer screen is a must have. Add that to the blood splatters, body parts, and intestines being thrown at you, and you have a truly immersive fighting experience. THUMBS UP! :D
Expect the unexpected eh?
Mortal Kombat 4 is on GOG! That is a surprise that i didn't even expect.
Now that it released, i checked other reviewers reviews of this to know if it even works fine, and apparently it does.
So knowing my desire for nostalgic games, i bought it.
Downloaded it, and opened it, Nostalgia hits me hard with the intros that works fine finally, because on the CD version of MK4 i have, playing on Windows 10 was bad, you couldn't see endings nor intros, which made me sad.
After the intro's, i get to see the beautiful main menu screen, oh golly me, that reminded me of those days playing it with my brothers, going further to play the game, i already knew what i was expecting, a good beaten up me, the game went well on Master difficulty, except in the Goro part, he really did beat me up hard, and that made me happy.
Seeing this game on here and in a very workable state is a good thing.
If you want to play this game because of the nostalgic times you had with this, then it is definitely good idea, but if you just want to try out the game, it is also good.
The original Windows port of Mortal Kombat 4... that port is good. What else do I have to say? Oh yeah. this version comes with nGlide, so if you have a computer that isn't Windows 98, click on the external executables button and set up your resolution. Really, why wouldn't you buy this? It's MK4 for the first time on PC since... well, the 98 release, with nGlide for no resolution issues, and if you have an Xbox or ps4 controller, you can set that up too! (Press F2 to set up controllers and keybinds if you don't know.) And before anyone says (hehe you can just emulate it with mame) 1st of all: If you want to support the creators that's not gonna work 100%. 2nd of all: You need a fancy PC to emulate MK4. and 3rd of all: MAME has lighting glitches with the Midway Zeus engine, so really if you buy this you're getting a better experience than arcade emulation anyways.
