Description

Five hundred years ago, an ancient and well respected Shaolin fighting tournament, held every 50 years, was corrupted by an evil and elderly sorcerer by the name of Shang Tsung. Shang was accompanied by Prince Goro, a warrior of the Shokan race (a four-armed half-human / half-dragon). Knowing that if ten tournaments in a row were won by the Outworld champion, the Earth Realm would be conquered by evil and fall into darkness, Shang entered Goro in the tournament and had him defeat the great Kung Lao. Goro has been reigning supreme as the undefeated fighting champion for five hundred years now. As the last tournament required draws near, Raiden, Thunder God and protector of the Earth Realm, enacts a plan to tip the scales in the humans' favor, Seven fighters step into the arena on Shang Tsung's mysterious island: Shaolin warrior Liu Kang, Special Forces operative Sonya Blade, the mercenary thug Kano, fame-seeking actor Johnny Cage, the ice-wielding Lin Kuei warrior Sub-Zero and his undead adversary Scorpion, and Raiden himself.

Re-live this arcade classic with the first 3 instalments of the Mortal Kombat franchise. Great classic pack! MK4 missing though!

Always loved the MK franchise, especially in its golden age (1992-1995 --> 1, 2, 3), the very first game is my absolute favorite, also the one I think the 1995 movie is based on. Second part from 1993 is... well yeah... just like the movie... not bad, but not that big boom the first one was. The second was also the one to introduce Shao Kahn, more new characters, more movements and somewhat better graphics, so it was quite decent for its time... The third one had very minor changes in my opinion; except some new characters again, a combo-system and a button to run (against your enemy), which isn't that much to be fond of as an innovation I think. I liked the 4th episode though! Which is also the one I am really missing on GOG to be found! :) The 4th episode was the first to introduce 3D accelerated graphics in a fighting game, 3D models and maps (even if running in software rendered mode). Which was still not enough to compete against the newer Virtua Fighter series (Virtua Fighter 1 and 2 in particular, which were present to date). However compared to 1-2-3 (and Trilogy, which was kind of a MK special edition ;)), the 4th part seemed to be very innovative, starting off with a full motion video, its 3D graphics, changing your position on each map (shifting one-another step backward/forward), picking up stuff from the environment to toss at your enemy and this was also the first episode to introduce weaponal combat (you could also pick up your enemy's weapon). By the way, MK4 (1997) was also the last episode to be released for PC for quite a while (till 2011 I believe as Mortal Kombat (2011) came out...) So please GOG, if possible, add also that one to your store, would be proud to see it available at a decent price! Thanks! :)

Classics

I actually prefer this over Steam’s Arcade version with the extra cheat menus and better ability to practice on specific stages against a 2nd player when learning fatality moves. This game brings back a flood of memories getting to own and play the favorite old school games again. Nothing more satisfying than pulling off a finishing move. By the way, for those new to DOS version, F1 starts game and F10 lets you configure keyboard for MK1 and 2. Doesn’t work well with controllers, but you can configure the keyboard keys to however best suits you. With such a cheap price too this is well worth it. Thank you for this.

The Kult Games for every 90' kid!

First of all, the actual grade would be 3, but only it would be only for this version of the games. Ignoring how GOG delivers them ( a little too rough, even for GOG standards), I give the bundle a majestic 5 star rating (based on the games themselves) That said... It's MK. I mean, do you really need an explanation? However, i want to spend a few words on this produKt itself, which is fine.. but this time, just being run on DOS it doesn't give a memorable experience. Basically, the only problems that I found are due to teKnical nature: no pausing, lack of control support ( that is understandable, however) and the key map which is.. weird? it's the only word that I found that fit the feeling. ( which again, in console version are set up way better... although it's not even a GOG problem - but they could have improved.. soooo yeah) Besides that, even if you are not fan of Kombat games ( I mean, fighting games in general) this are the games of pure rad 90' and simple yet revolutionary fighting mechanics ( at the time). And if you manage to play in this.. let's call it raw version... it would be a true... TEST (to) YOUR MIGHT. ( yuck, manage to insert this joke :) )

MORTAL KOMBAT!

Here is the gem. Here is what boys palyed amongst Street Fighter series to get inspired into martial arts, boxing, aikido, karate etc. Me, as a teen, was no exception. We played these games originally with Amiga's 500 etc. and arcade cabinet. PC version is more closer to the arcade version, but gotta admit that I love the PC and Amiga versions equally. The playability has not changed a bit nor the athmosphere of the original conflict feel. It is still dirty, mean and fast tournament play which we used to play for days trying to learn the moves and fatalities since there were not that much manuals present and people merely copied the floppies etc. For people: F10 brings up the games configuration menu amongst with choises for controllers and if these would not cut it, which only tells that the DOSBox configuration should be consulted, then Ctr+F1 opens the DosBox own configuration even for the screenshots. Not going to spoil others playing experiences by telling more, all I am going to say: JUST GET IT!
