Once this city used to pulse with energy - dirty and dangerous - but alive and wonderful. Now it is something else.
In a city where information is heavily monitored, agile couriers called Runners transport sensitive data away from prying eyes.
In this seemingly utopian paradise, a crime has been committed, your sister has been framed and now you are being hunted.
You are a Runner called Faith - and this innovative first-person action-adventure is your story.
Mirror’s Edge™ delivers you straight into the shoes of this unique heroine as she traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat and fast paced chases. With a never before seen sense of movement and perspective, you will be drawn into Faith’s world. A world that is visceral, immediate, and very dangerous.
Live or die? Soar or plummet? One thing is certain, in this city you will learn how to run.
Move yourself: String together an amazing arsenal of wall-runs, leaps, vaults and more, in fluid, acrobatic movements that turns every level of the urban environment to your advantage and salvation.
Immerse yourself: In first person every breath, every collision, every impact is acutely felt. Heights create real vertigo, movements flow naturally, collisions and bullet impacts create genuine fear and adrenaline.
Challenge yourself: Fight or flight. Your speed and agility allow you not only to evade, capture and perform daring escapes, but also to disable and disarm unwary opponents, in a mix of chase, puzzles, strategy and intense combat.
Free Yourself: Runner vision allows you to see the city as they do. See the flow. Rooftops become pathways and conduits, opportunities and escape routes. The flow is what keeps you running – what keeps you alive.
Nice story, epic gameplay.
My maximum experience with parkour in gaming was Assassin's Creed, and what a difference! At first I thought this could be a trouble, after all it's a traverse focus gameplay, all the attention it's on moving across the map, but surprisingly, it's wasn't that hard (A side from certain moments), and, once you learn, it's really satisfying. There are also persecution sections where you run from the cops, this ones are really cool since you have to parkour fast to escape, add the great soundtrack and you have a really intence experience.
I don't have much experience with parkour on gaming, but for now this one it's the best one i played so far, i highly recommend it.
"Innovative" is used in the description of this game, which may be a little bit of an exaggeration. That being said, it is a very unique, very cool game with absolutely top-notch aesthetics. The gameplay is fun and well-realized, if somewhat one-note.
Combat is a weakness, though in spurts it can be very entertaining; the problem becomes more of a puzzle-solving exercise on how to isolate and eliminate enemies while exposing yourself for minimal damage. In general, the whole game kind of feels like a puzzle. As I said, the game is short; the time trials have a very "tacked on" feeling, just being snippets of the main game, and unfortunately the unique, artistic, minimalist DLC maps that were on consoles never released on PC to my knowledge, so you can't get them. In my mind, that's points off, as they offered some very good challenges.
I also would like to point out the TERRIBLE animated cutscenes that look like the old e-surance commercials. They completely go against the bold, colorful style the rest of the game has, with a generally more muted palette, and they are poorly animated and clearly (in my mind) were the result of lack of time/money to do proper cutscenes. Indeed, the entire rest of the game is in first-person perspective, like Half-Life 1/2, and the incredibly bad cutscenes only make me wish for how cool some of those scenes would have looked with in-game graphics.
Anyway, I thoroughly enjoy playing this game every couple years and have beaten it maybe 8 or 10 times just for the sheer joy it brings. Not everyone's idea of a great game, but certainly worth checking out if the idea intrigues you.
PS: Avoid the sequel like the plague. It is one of the only games I've ever gotten a refund on.
Mirror´s Edge could be made 10, 5, 15 or 2 years ago and still feels so good to play. The bas of the game surrounds movement and thats so nailed, music/sound is also pretty good adn the history well its decent.
