Description
Day 1: I crashed upon the shores of the Eden this morning, rejected by the sea. Plague is coursing through my veins and I will die soon if I cannot discover a cure.

Day 5: I am being hunted by a mysterious creature. It stalks me day and night. I cannot let my guard down, for he is a cunning and intelligent adversary.

Day 9: Plague is ravaging my body now. It hunts me down just as the creature does. But, there is hope yet. I have been making progress in my search for a cure. I will need to do more scientific research and experimentation, but I am convinced this island holds the miracle I seek.

Miasmata is a game of survival, exploration and discovery. During your adventure, you’ll encounter a mysterious and deadly creature. This creature can stalk you for miles, lurking behind grasses and vegetative cover. By treading carefully and quietly, you may be able to elude the creature. If you’re careless, however, you will be forced to confront the creature head-on. Exploration is a key component to Miasmata, so you will need to make full use of an interesting cartography system. You can use landmarks, such as ruins and statues, to triangulate your location and construct a map of Eden's boundaries and contours.

  • Freedom to explore and discover the innermost secrets hidden on the island of Eden.
  • Use landmarks, such as ruins and statues, to triangulate your location using the unique cartography system.
  • Run lab experiments on the various plant and fungal specimens in order to find a cure for what ails you.

Good idea, bad presentation.

I like the premisse that you are strand on an island but it fails to capture you. It starts you all by yourself with no info about you whatsoever. All I know is I am stranded, alone, infect with a deadly plague and hunted by an deadly animal jet none of it has any urgency. I don't know who I am supposed to be because I have a convienent amnesia (way to save work on a backstory), so why would I give a fuck about the protagonist. The plague has NO drawback in the beginning at all and I've never seen the deadly animal. So the first hour was very dry and paired with shitty graphics I lost interest very quickly. Nice idea, bad presentation even for an indie game.

A wonderful surprise

Miasmata is a different kind of game. Its certainly not for anyone, but for people who love adventure type games, lvoe games where you explore and can get lost, or just like survival games in general, I recommend it. The graphics are FANTASTIC given that this is a homebrew engine and made by 2 people. That said, the pop in for the graphics can be quite annoying. The game is quite easy to play as far as the controls, but the game has realistic weight to the movement, you cant just run up and down hills and through the forests without consequence, you have to move carefully when you can and madly dash when you must. Music is quite minimal in the game, but the sound effects do well to immerse you in the atmosphere. The storyline is barebones at first, you dont receive any exposition, you have to learn it all for yourself from what you find in the island. I normally dont like adventure games, they really aren't my cup of tea, but Miasmata is one of the more riveting ones for sure.

Keyword: experience

This game is incredible, it gave me the most satisfying gaming experience in the past years. I won't repeat the arguments here. The graphics are good, the setting is amazing, the sounds are OK, but it is the self-reliant, boundless quality that sets this title apart from the rest. In this game, you are not given anything for free. The game gets easier or harder only because how you play it. As you get better at orientation, exploration is getting easier. Once you are familiar with exploration, you can choose to play the game as safe or as risky as you wish. You progress because your own orientation skills are getting better, not because the game showers you with power-ups. I really liked this game and was willing to overlook its few flaws (mainly technical), because it is such a rewarding experience.

Beware! An addictive game 2.5 GB ahead!

Awesome game! Pros: - Very beautiful. - Great exploration potential. - Very good music and sounds. - You get lost sometimes - like in real life. - It is dark at night - I mean DARK! - Many more - restricted by the GOG review size limit. Cons? There are some features in the game people find annoying and are complaining about. I think most of them are there for a reason: - It is very easy to slip and fall on slopes. Without it it's not much challenge to explore and you contracted a deadly disease and quite weak. Many slopes are steep and grassy. Treading carefully near slopes helps most of the time. - You can only carry 4 plants at a time. Adds challenge and you don't really need more. - The creature - this adds some tension and it does not appear too often. - All actions in the game have their animations repeated over and over every time you perform them. It is a bit annoying, but most of the things you don't have to do too often. The ones you do often are quite short (drinking). - The journal management. I have a sheet of paper where I write important information - this is faster than to find it in a journal. All in all this one is quite a good game and a fresher - so unlike most of the games.

Hikers should experience this

If you like hiking, camping and exploring in nature, this game is an essential experience. It is one of the games that gets the closest to feeling like being in the wilderness. Amazing atmostphere, you learn to move like you would in nature (rather than in a FPS), and the joy of discovery in this game is marvelous. As for anyone else, the other reviews have it down.
