Description
Day 1: I crashed upon the shores of the Eden this morning, rejected by the sea. Plague is coursing through my veins and I will die soon if I cannot discover a cure.

Day 5: I am being hunted by a mysterious creature. It stalks me day and night. I cannot let my guard down, for he is a cunning and intelligent adversary.

Day 9: Plague is ravaging my body now. It hunts me down just as the creature does. But, there is hope yet. I have been making progress in my search for a cure. I will need to do more scientific research and experimentation, but I am convinced this island holds the miracle I seek.

Miasmata is a game of survival, exploration and discovery. During your adventure, you’ll encounter a mysterious and deadly creature. This creature can stalk you for miles, lurking behind grasses and vegetative cover. By treading carefully and quietly, you may be able to elude the creature. If you’re careless, however, you will be forced to confront the creature head-on. Exploration is a key component to Miasmata, so you will need to make full use of an interesting cartography system. You can use landmarks, such as ruins and statues, to triangulate your location and construct a map of Eden's boundaries and contours.

  • Freedom to explore and discover the innermost secrets hidden on the island of Eden.
  • Use landmarks, such as ruins and statues, to triangulate your location using the unique cartography system.
  • Run lab experiments on the various plant and fungal specimens in order to find a cure for what ails you.

I had lot of good time in this Island

Ok many things could be better, and it 's not a simulation as it doesn' t consider hunger or thirst or many other thing. But I really liked this Island, I liked a lot to walk everywhere to discover and triangulate (a very good idea), to find it difficult to climb and having to think how to manage it, to have fear when night was coming cause i couldn't see anything and had to quickly find a shelter. I liked to make some noise when I walked in some place (rocks, branches), and then be afraid I could have been heard by the beast.. and then stop to hear... and discover there was something coming... Some people will dislike the physics and the graphics but as for me I kind of liked both of them. Wish the best for the developpers who made some great job, with good ideas, and hope to hear from them later with a bigger game, improving this one or a new one in the same mood. I think they deserve some attentions from there, especially when you think the 2 brothers made all the physic engine by themselves

Excellent Survival Adventure

Miasmata was an entertaining and enjoyable game for me. At first I had difficulty with the map mechanics but once I practiced in a landmark rich viewing area I figured that out easily. What was difficult was actually finding enough landmarks in certain parts of the game to actually be able to triangulate, but eventually I managed to do it and map out the entire landmass. I played the game for about a day and a half before I ever even ran into "the creature", but I managed to evade it 6 or 7 times before eventually he caught up with me. The creature is a bit creepy at first but you get used to it. Any attempt I ever made to kill the creature with a weapon resulted in injury to myself or death making me believe the only way to avoid it is to run fast enough and get it off your trail, or dive off a cliff or into a tent. With axes and hunting knives all over the island it would have been nice if the game had let you fashion a homemade spear by mounting a knife on the end of a branch or something. I wish the game let you get more creative with constructing survival items or even setting up your own tent, making a back pack etc. Nonetheless, it was a fun game and while sometimes challenging to locate certain items, it only took a few days to complete the game and make it to the boat. I look forward to similar games in the future and hope the developer or some other company puts out similar games that take it to a whole new level of realism.

A walking sim this is not, give it a go

Nor is it a boring "exploration" game where you just again walk around. It could easialy fall into that trap, but it manages to ascend that with a tight focus on triangulation and navigation, making it an engaging hand crafted experience. If you've played subnautica, imagine a much drier, much simpler, older and more indy version of that. Basic idea is, you are banished to an island with a fever. You find the rough formula for a cure and an idea of where to go, along with a compass and map. Navigate and find plants to science about with and try not to die or get killed along the way. Sounds simple, and it is, in the same way a fine sleek piece of woodwork made entirely from hand tools is. You can see the imperfections, but you can also see the soul within it, from the individually labelled chemical flasks, to the complete lack of procedural generation. This was a magic time when half life still mattered and before steam and the indie scene became a dumping ground for boring shovel ware, so the immersion is very present, from the different areas of the island having their own flora and fauna, to the sounds of a lonely loon in a pine forest. Everything is much better than it should be for a team of just two guys with seemingly no producer. Now if theres a negative it's the beast and what you can do with it. Unless I'm doing something wrong, the game suggests there is a combat system, and offers up all sorts of crude weaponry, but when you come up against the beast, you can't really do anything, and running and hiding doesn't work great either. There seems to be no feeling of being able to handle it which immediately kills the immersion, which is the whole thing the game has going for it. Now the beast looks good, and as long as you're faceing it, you can usually avoid it's strikes. It's not too frusterating and I would much rather have the very occasional threat that it is than none at all. I just wish it was done a bit better. Pick it up.

Just not interesting enough

Idea - nice. Implementation - poor. I'm not referring to the poor UI (although it is), I'm referring to your options. Except for walking around, mapping the island (which is nice and original), and picking plants then running back with them to the hut - there's nothing else to do! No hunting, building traps, foraging or any other stuff I'd expect from a survival game. The amount of actions you can perform in the game are minimal. All the items behave the same - hit or throw with them. It's just boring...
