METAL GEAR SOLID

The port is pretty good and works as you expect it. The only issue is that sometimes the menu can bug out but it doesn't happen enough to make it annoying. Worth it for working out the box

1. Limited to 1280x960 render. RetroArch does up to 16x internal resolution. 2. "can't map to xbox triggers". Retroarch does it perfectly. 3. No Widescreen support. RetroArch has widescreen hack and it works fine. 4. Uses xBR or some other image filtering for the title screen. This looks bad. Either recreate the menu's and text or don't do it at all. 5. Can't remove black bars on top or bottom. RetroArch does it perfectly, along with widescreen hack you get a complete fullscreen experience. 6. Still jitters and clips. This is the only point where PS1 Emulation suffers - emulation typically has these jitters but RetroArch has options to limit this. However this port still clips in cutscenes. 7. This port isn't good nor is it new. A random guy online ported the original 2000 PC version for free. If a company can't beat that then they have no business making ports. Either make 100% quality or let it stay in its original medium. *RetroArch is RetroArch Nightly, using the Beetle PSX HW core. You can configure the game to use this core once you've loaded the content (should appear on the bottom of the menu to the left), you can use F1 while in game to modify those per game settings as well.

no mods or anything needed, works absolutely fine

This game is outright amazing, I've been playing MGS2, MGSPW and MGS4 as of lately and I've never played MGS1, so far the port was pretty decent. Except that If I've been Alt Tabbed for a while, the main menu has these weird lines everywhere, and also, The FMV Subs don't work. Except for that, great port, and also, don't forget to disable the "Aspect Ratio Correction" in the DirectX Config so that the game can take up the entire screen.

For me, the first Metal Gear Solid is the best game in the series, and this port is based on the Japanese re-release dubbed "Metal Gear Solid Integral" which added a lot of improvements to the base game, that American gamers didn't get to have on the PlayStation. This release features modern controller support out of the box, but to further extend your enjoyment, get the custom launcher for it that allows stuff like proper widescreen.
