Bought this game after probably 10 years of last try and Im gonna say its great for nostalgia gaming, completed main campaign in about 20 hours on easy, the game was memory line of places i knew but this time I didnt suck!
I see lot of "average" reviews being around gameplay and mechanics that dont realize its old game basically trying to find itself and I think its perfect, yes enemies are hiding behind bushes, trees and/or fog, yes they can take couple of more hits but so can you. I personally didnt ran out of ammo at all nor died that much (about 15 times in total) but I couldnt enjoy higher difficulties.
The gog version of game is quite bugless unless you try hard to find them, game crashed once during whole playthrough
Hi folks,
It's a great game which brings back a lot of good memories.
I downloaded the Warchest and had a blast playing the original campaign....however I'm not able to play Spearhead and Breakthrough, these two don't work on my Windows 10, I wonder if you might have encountered similar issues
Whenever I want to start these two, Windows says that MOH program stopped working;(
so basically they stop working after few seconds...
I spent endless hours on this game both on the single-player campaigns (base game + expansions) and the multiplayer, when the servers went down, i was actually very sad about it, as of today, i'm still sad about it, this game and Dungeon Siege were the two games i loved playing multiplayer, Medal of Honor Allied Assault is the only game i ever truly loved to play multiplayer and with actual humans instead of bots.
I had lot of fun on the multiplayer, the countless hours i shrunk into this, honestly, the number probably went above 4000 hours and that only on the multiplayer part not counting the single-player.
Not only it was (and still would be if the servers wouldn't be closed) an amazing multiplayer and single-player game but the lan with friends and family was really amazing, you know, but i guess that those days of lan are over, a shame really.
So what's so good about this game? Its textures, graphics and models? No, certainly not, even 90's games had better textures and graphics.
So what is it?
Well it's simple, to me it was the design of the maps, the simple but good gameplay, no health regeneration, no bullcrap unlocks, just fun.
I loved the maps and the gamemodes, the gamemodes added by the expansions were really cool too but i didn't had the opportunity to play on those since they were dead by 2005.
Objective mode was my favorite part, but teamdeath matches were really fun too, or even the freeforall matches, i hate those yet i did liked those in Medal of Honor: Allied Assault.
There was also those custom gamemodes such as sniper rifle only, base building, etc...
Pure joy it was.
So in the end, for me, its greatest point was the maps,
It has nothing to do with nostalgia, the maps really are fun and enjoyable to play on.
You can still play multiplayer but there are barely any players so it is not worth it anymore...
MOH-AA really left an impression when I first played it. The intro mission was something I hadn't seen before. After playing the demo I HAD to get the collector's edition of it - and I was far from being disappointed. Just when I started to get bored from shooters, this game wakened my interest again. Playing through it was a time well spent, even if I have to say that I didn't like the expansions as much as I loved the main game. Also it has one of the best soundtrack I have heared in a shooter so far.
Enjoyable first person shooter, one of the first to do the whole "World War 2 as inspired by Saving Private Ryan" thing, to which Call of Duty followed in it's footsteps. The game really holds up well, graphically it still looks decent and the enemy animations and AI is great to fight against in close quarters gun battles.
However... it really suffers from some serious difficulty spikes which turns this into a quick save management game rather than a WW2 shooter. In the later levels where you're put into more open outdoor environments, enemy troops seem to have laser x-ray vision and can see you through the thickest shrubbery and shoot you instantly and accurately. Switching the game to Easy still proved to be an incredible challenge as all it seemed to do was reduce the damage you take, meaning you had a few extra seconds to figure out who was shooting you and do something about it. Combine this with being hugely outnumbered (especially on the final mission) and for me this meant I found myself quick saving every 2 steps and not having a great deal of enjoyment.
Therefore I just turned on God Mode and that solved it and I was again able to enjoy myself. Still played as though I could die, finding cover etc... but knowing I wouldn't sniped and killed from an unseen German suddenly made it a lot more appealing way to spend my free time.
Good game, enjoyed finishing it but man alive, games used to be more difficult not sure how I used to play this back in the day like I did. I guess my spare time wasn't as precious back then. :)
