Good rather than great
The game has some truly amazing moments and incredible atmosphere, especially the D-DAY landing sequence. However, it also has some big failings, such as it's poor draw distance. I ended up deleting the game after failing miserably in the street battle, where enemy snipers would quickly kill you, before they were visible or had even been rendered on the screen. Kudos to those with the patience to get past that level, but it became too much of a chore to continue without enjoying it.

Simple, yet fun WWII FPS
Years after being tired of the saturation of WWII FPS games in the market and seeing Call of Duty: World at War as a swan song for the genre, the itch to play such games as come back at the right time, and MOH: Allied Assault is a good way to get back in. It may not wooh those who have loved games that succeeded it and improved upon it's ideas, it's simple to pick up and get used to, and once started, it's a joy to play through. Plus, it's cheap and comes included with two expansions. My only complaints would be the lack of proper widescreen support (although it's perfectly playable in 4:3) and may be a bit on the easy end for many.

Easy to complain about. But. Normandy.
As reviewers state, this is a groundbreaking game that changed everything. Yet this is also a game that has been epically overshadowed by the games that follow it. All of this can be put aside for a moment though. The Normandy sequence is absolutely epic. With a basic knowledge of history sprinkled over, this section of the game embodies the anti modern-AAA hold your hand whatever style of gaming that rules the day. Drive forward, at all cost.
