Description
Become part of an Army Ranger team as you battle your way through enemy-infested towns, regain control of the Atlantic, and establish a beachhead as part of the D-Day invasion force on Omaha Beach in Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault - Spearhead chronicles the last year of the war on the European front. Parachute behind enemy lines during Operation Overlord, halt the German offensive during the Battle of the Bulge, and engage the German forces as they desperately try to defend the heart of the Reich, Berlin. In Medal of Honor: Allied Assault - Breakthrough, you’ll join U.S. Army Sergeant John Baker as fights in the battle at Kasserine Pass in North Africa, race to capture Messina in Sicily, and finally repel the German army at the historic battle of Monte Battaglia in the heart of Italy.

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault War Chest is a treasure trove of historical battles presented as a gritty World War II action FPS. Call in artillery and air strikes against the opposing forces and keep your squad away from the jaws of defeat and despair. Drive various assault vehicles, always charging onwards to victory. Uncle Sam wants YOU!

Good shooter, unplayable expansions...

This is occassionaly tough as nails, turn of the century, WWII shooter that benefits from its melodramatic score more than it does from spikes in difficulty and merciless enemy placements. Its most infamous moments are intact - bombastic, exciting and frustrating - and are deftly punctuated by the cinematic roar of the expertly cranked up sound design. Turn up the graphics in the advanced options and it doesn't feel particularly ugly either, though level geometry and AI are decidedly of the dated variety. Shame about the expansion packs (for which you pay for with this version) that, try as I might, did not launch once. The base game is still long and varied enough and definitely a treat for any shooter fan not completely spoilt by snap-aim fluidity of modern FPS games.

Expansion is laughable

The base game is ok, but since this bundles the expansions the score is lowered to reflect their quality. Spearhead, which in my first play through I can only describe as "a scripted turd", is so bad that I can't stop laughing every time I die from some random scripted event, like the game spawning four tanks right in front of me when I just reached a stationary cannon that fires 10 rounds/minute that aren't even insta-kill. I'm dead before firing the third round. Math checks out. Other levels are babysitter simulators where you're virtually indestructible but have to run around and try to find which of your teammates (that you don't care about) you have to save from his own stupidity, lest you fail the mission. It's war — but no one must die. Or how about the level where you're not in control of your own movement and are only given an anti-tank gun, and are forced to load save games over and over until you've memorized every location of every enemy on the map? Ingenious. That sounds like fun.

Brilliant game

Really good game, one of those that takes you to your years as a kid playing at the afternoon or night before going to bed. I know that usually nostalgia is a dangerous "weapon" , but in this case it has no effectiveness. Medal of Honor is a golden game , in the past and in the present.

Aged like a good wine

This game is still a great FPS. Yeah, it lacks cover system, aiming and plenty of other modern mechanics, but what you get is pure, fast and difficult shooter with a great atmosphere - exactly how I remember it.

3/5 Enjoyable but flawed

I only bought the game to replay through Allied Assault and I completed the game on all 3 difficulties. I'm using a Windows 10 laptop with Intel graphics and the game ran mostly very well with rare crashes. Check the forum for help with getting it to run properly on Intel cards and also advice for playing in widescreen. They got everything right here; atmosphere, missions, level design, music and sound effects, and the respect for the subject matter. The only thing they screwed up pretty badly is the AI. While they act well in their attempts to manouevre and fight you, they unfortunately will hit you constantly from very long range, mostly before you even have a chance to see them. The game tends to play better in close encounter missions because of this and the sniper alley mission is notorius because of this. The Siegfried forest is even worse although doesn't get mentioned as much, probably because many people rage quit at sniper alley. That said, the game is worth a playthrough on easy just to experience the very enjoyable and fast paced action and what is basically Saving Private Ryan in a game. The Omaha beach landing is lifted straight out of the film. For anyone who likes a real challenge, I'd recommend hard mode. It was a real struggle getting through and there were certain sections which felt almost impossible but ended up doable with just the right tactics and some very quick and accurate shooting. Definitely one of the toughest games I've ever finished.
