Barebones at best Hong Kong homage
I absolutely loved Dusk - a retro-themed FPS done right. Maximum Action, an early access title inspired by Hong Kong heroic bloodshed cinema, is published by the same folks, so I decided to get it on Steam many moons ago. It was barebones then and while a bit of progress has been made in the 2 years since, it's basically just as barebones now. While the shooting is passable and the game wears its Hong Kong influence on its sleeve (a hospital right out of Hard-Boiled - including windows everywhere and a one-eyed goon with a machine gun as the final boss - and a restaurant level obviously inspired by A Better Tomorrow - including the flower pots). The graphics, though... Dusk strikes just the right balance: it looks like a FPS from the mid 90s, but has a compelling style. Maximum Action, on the other hand, is just hideously ugly and the Minecraft look seriously takes away from the experience. The handful of levels are tiny and take about a minute or two each to finish. To make matters worse, it feels very poorly optimised. You'd think a game that looks this bad should run like a charm, but it doesn't. I rate 2/5. It might become a 3/5 or even a 4/5 with a LOT of tender loving care (ie. make the graphics not repulsively ugly, create some large and interesting levels, make the AI not suck completely and work on that performance - why this runs worse than Crysis is absolutely beyond me). However, I doubt that's going to happen. As far as I know, it's basically a one-man project, so it's somewhat forgiveable that updates are rather slow. Unfortunately, more often than not the time seems to be spent on asinine additions such as the fancy new main menu that was introduced in a recent patch that has you popping in VHS tapes for each level - which is a neat idea and appropriately retro, but ultimately does nothing than waste your time. Never have I been more tempted to get a refund on Steam than for this game (the IMHO steep pricetag didn't help).

It is great, with a few issues
Its a great game, but it is lacking in polish and levels. It is an early access game so i cannot really be mean at it, considering tho it has great shooting and movement that even Call of Duty cannot compete with. But as one australian boomer once said: ,,If you remove the jank, you'd remove any charme it has. Then it just becomes an indie shooter''

Not a good game.
I've tried to like this game but movement is so twisted I feel like I'm on the moon. The guns miss at point blank range for no reason. Even in early access this is too roiugh for me.

Great game design
I really like the interface of this game. And I like level break games. I think breaking a level gives me a great sense of achievement. You can use this balloon to celebrate your victory. https://yugongengineering.com/latex-balloon-making-machine/
