Master of Orion 1+2

Simply addictive, clean to play, enjoyable animations and colourful design. Every space empire building game since has been building on the same formula but has never bettered this game. I've owned and played Sins of a Solar Empire, Galactic Civilizations etc and whilst they might look pretty and are good games in their right, the genre was already perfected with Master of Orion 1 + 2. Play these games, you won't regret it. Plus it's always amusing when your name pops up as a leader character =]

Master of Orion 2 stands out to be as having one of the best interfaces ever designed. The phrase "knowledge at a glance" really applies - you can get a lot of information about your current empire with just a few mouse clicks. This really shines in contract to MoO 3 which had about the worst game interface I've ever seen containing both too much useless info in some screens and nowhere near enough info in others. MoO 2's race customisation is both amazing fun and spectacularly unbalanced at the same time. Certain combinations are near unstoppable - the stock standard Silicoids are extremely hard to beat since they have enough industrial capacity to start colonising from the very start of the game due to not requiring farmers or having to worry about pollution. The second best combo would have to be aquatic + subterranean + growth bonus. Honestly, I've tried a number of 4X space games. None of them really can match up to the first two MoO games.

MOO 2 - best space strategy ever made!

I already own a CD version of this game. I had gotten it to run with DOSBox, however, I could never get multiplayer up and running, so I finally decided to buy this game, once again, expecting GOG had solved this issue. Was I wrong... I had gotten further in IPX network support than they had. Their version is a uses DOSBox, so I got nothing out of the purchase. While I love the game, I play it for the multiplayer, so I do regret this unnecessary purchase.

I played this game for many years and never thought I would again, great additive music, fantastic game. Thank you GoG !!
