Master of Orion

I would buy this in a heartbeat were it not for the spyware and trackers you agree to let operate if you play this game on multiplayer. Another down vote is it's owned by Wargaming Labs, the money grubbers that bring you World of Warships, Planes, and Tanks. Even more disturbing is the reports of high internet usage when playing single player. I've no idea if it's true but his alone keeps me away from not only this game but ALL games from Wargaming Labs.

The game has lots of issues with unit selection in tactical mode, it just becames unresponsive. This is not the first time it happened. I'm playing latest release. God how I miss BOTF.

I bought this game in the hopes of getting a revamped version MoO 2 - maybe with a new gimmick or two. What I got was a "streamlined", i.e. dumbed-down, version of a much better game. It looks very beautiful but it's hollow... The combat has been completely gutted; designing your own ships has become trivial, the tactical element has been removed from the space battles. The battles were half the fun of the original game! Avoid this at all costs, if you've played MoO 2 and loved it like me. You will be unbelievably disappointed with this. Spend your money on something else.

I've put in 25 hours so far. I love this game. Like others, I was a fan of Master of Orion 1 and 2. I just don't understand what people dislike that's causing them to give it a low rating - this is amazing, beautiful, cinematic, the characters are delightfully voiced. "I wish graphics were all it took" = nonsense. This isn't just graphics...!! The whole gameplay is fine and a big improvement on MOO 2 (and 1, obviously). The AI is good. The ONLY critique I give any credence to is that it'd be nice if you could redirect ship production so all the ships go to some point when they're created. Seriously though, what the f**k is wrong with everyone? Install the game. Try playing the Psilons first. You'll be delighted.

MOO II tops my list of my all-time favorite games. The near perfect blend of 4x. I had hoped this would follow in the legacy, avoiding the mistakes made in MOO III. As many of the other reviews have noted, this is a 'dumbed down' iteration of the series, and it's lacking many of the features found in the original, such as; Leaders, ability to move between systems without 'warp points', meaningful events (I've only seen 3). There seems to be a lot of things in the game that are unrefined, as I would normally see in a Beta release. Rally points for construction. I'm hoping that many of these will be resolved in future updates On the upside, politics seem to work better, the game is graphically very pretty and the voice acting well done, I like the new interface.
