Average Game

Setting aside the DRM issue (personally I do not consider multiplayer in RTS attractive anyway), what you get is the second best game with Master of Orion in the title - whith a HUGE gap to MoO2 in 1st place and a fair distance to the MoO2-style Birth of Federation from that-franchise-which-does-not-carry-Orion-in-its-name. I do like the civilizaitonesque changes to management done by Wargaming, as they make part of the games more fluent and I also will not complain too much about balancing, as there are actually quite a lot of issues in MoO2 as well, one just got used to them over the years. But the game changer, for the worse, in WGs Master of Orion are the fixed travel routes. Without the ability to travel freely across the galaxy, not only is propulsion research mostly irrelevant, but suddenly key star systems function as strategic important gatekeepers. Instead of managing a galactic fleet, you will find yourself playing tower defense. Which is not necesarrily bad, but combined with fleet restrictions removes much of the "do what you want and face the consequences" freedom that made MoO2 special. This game here is just average.

Great entry 4X game

I'm new to 4X games and was looking for a game to help me get into 4X games and this helped me. It does feel like Civ 5 in ways but has it's own flavor. If you are new to 4X and want to find a SCI-FI 4X game that has a slower learning curve this game is a great game. Also it works on my budget $500 HP college laptop.

Poorly Cloned Civ: Beyond Earth

I went into this game with high hopes; Master of Orion II was a pristine gem that still holds true even to day. Imagine my surprise when I tried this game and found it...poorly designed and executed. Some bugs (features?): -Custom race building is an unbalanced mess of disjointed and incorrectly-costed abilities. I assume the devs decided to balance the race building to keep pvp...'fair'? The multiplayer is NOT DRM-Free and I don't care about multiplayer in the slightest. -Unless you play on Easy, be prepared for blatantly unbalanced AI opponents. While I won't claim to be some kind of 4x master, I would like to imagine that I'm competent enough to observe. I tried to replicate the seemingly unfair advancements of the pre-built races and there was literally no scenario that could lead me to that level of development. -RTS ship combat is a clunky illusion of choice. Your designs will never matter, except to make your ships take painfully longer to build. -Building anything takes way too long...unless your the AI, and then whatever ship they build will always be finished before yours regardless. -Diplomacy is a confusing mess. Color coding dispositions is a great idea, but you will find that you are in some Cthuliod alternate dimension where 'green' means wary, tense, or hate. -Blatant copying of Civ is just the opposite of what I was looking. -There are so many vague alternate win conditions that it's unintuitive and worthless. -Unless you play the game in the precise way the devs want you to play it, you will be overtly and directly penalized. You want to be full defensive and be aggressive? That's 'ok,' here are aliens who will ALWAYS more stats. You want to just invade everyone? That's 'ok,' here are aliens that will find some backdoor to you place (and have more stats). Working on a victory? Here are aliens that will always be ahead of you on yours and so far ahead on the others that yours can NEVER win the game.

Master of Orion Fan

I loved MOO 1 and 2 and played them so much. I was excited about this remake, but it was a huge letdown. The game is similar to MOO 2 in many ways like planet management and technology. They style is more MOO 1 though. I think they improved some things like the planet builder can mine astroids and gas planets and setup cheap "star bases" to block way points. This makes the game more defensive though. Diplomacy is good but some races arent as agressive as they should be. The below ruined it for me. Real time combat is horrible. Might as well just auto resolve all fights. The turn base combat in MOO 1 and 2 was much for tacticle. Races - like MOO 2 you can create your own race and you have 10 points to do so. I started to look at the races and some have unique skills not in the custom race and some total more than 10 points worth, which is great. Then there were a couple I could build for 6 points, so why would you ever select? The Cyrssalas use like 20 points, but the ability to not grow population with food is a massive issue,

Poor Design

Got this off from Steam with a bundle of three previous series. Sadly I didn't like it when first came out and still lame to me. The Russians didn't do a good job on this title. Infact many like the old MoO2 better than third part and I like part three better. I think it have something to do with real-time, so you can watch the battles. But there are some flawed in the game that never gotten corrected or improved. So sadly they didn't do a good job on this new MoO, the graphics and animations was good, but the realism and how it was setup wasn't. Many were upset that they wanted turn based and other wanted real-time space engagements. Why not have both? Guess the Russians aren't that creative after all.
