Absolutely amazing game. If only someone could just redo the graphics. Don't need to change a thing with it's mechanics or gameplay. Even with the graphics though, this game is a blast. Thank you GOG.
I used to play this ALL the time. The fact that you could choose how many spellbooks from each class of magic let you really customize how you wanted to play. It's great to be able to play these great old MS-DOS games on newer computers!
I played Master of Magic back in 9th grade and I can not tell you how many hours I put into this game. When my friend first showed it to me, all I could think was what is this Next Turn button? Little did I know, that little button controlled everything. I would think to myself, just a few more turns and then I'll go to bed, and then all of the sudden it would be 4 am. Only one other game since then has given me the appearance of lost time and that game was Diablo II.
The problem with this particular genre is the lack of immersion okay there is the suspension of disbelief the feeling your actually in the game your senses heighten and the lines of reality blur. Well when your micro managing troops and unruly townsfolk that feeling kinda falls to the way side. So what do turn based strategists find immersing? solid control and the feeling that everything has a purpose. As fans of this genre can tell you it's all about building a strategy and riding to success or failure. With this game the options are immense and intuitive. allowing custom strategies from the beginning and lenient adjustment as play progresses this game is awesome!
