Lost interest.

Was it my fault that I lost motivation to keep playing? I really don't know. I didn't have much motivation to begin with, but I hoped the story or gameplay would hook me. It didn't. It really isn't a bad game. Maybe I'm just not the "target audience". (not political pun intended)

Looks Great But Unable To Play Though

For Some odd reason this game was pre selecting the Spanish language not the English language natively on boot for me. And this made it impossible for me to navigate the menus I somehow accidentally did get into the game it's self at one point button mashing and did see what was very visually impressive considering the date this game was released on as it does go back some years. It has a lot of polish and detail and is certainly high calibur in the visuals department. I really wanted to be able to play this one but I couldn't unfortunately. Also an imprtant fact is that the gamepads I have here an Ouya gamepad mimicking the Xbox 360 Xinput and the 8BitDo SN30 Pro Bluetooth they would not be detected at all.

Boring and Mundane

The gameplay is boring and repetitive, there's little difference between the 1st fight and the 30th; the customisation and scavenging is barebones; the music is repetitive; the story is completely uninteresting and you'll be constantly disengaged. Ultimately, there's very little in this game to actually entertain you. Not the characters, the plot, the gameplay, nothing. It is empty and shallow, and you feel bored the entire time playing. There's a reason the average playtime for this game is 5 hours.

Okay, I'm done

I really liked Greedfall, and I really wanted to try the rest of the Spider games, but I just can't make myself go through Mars War Logs. The graphics look very dated, like you're playing a game from the mid 2000s, not early 2010. The UI is terrible: you get quests and often no indication of where to do or what to do. Some of them literally just want you to stumble around clicking on things until the quest is finished. I've had no real sense of moral choices, despite the game evidently having them, and you get companions, but there's little to do with them. The killer for me was combat. It's slow, it's tedious, the difficulty curve ramps up wildly once you unlock your powers, as though they expect that to make a big difference. Maybe I just need to "Git gud" but there's no real indication of what it is I'm supposed to be doing instead. No amount of dodging, rolling and carefully timed parries will let you fend off 6 people at once in a confined space with ranged weapons. You just save scum and hope you get lucky, over and over again, fight after fight. That's not how you make an "interesting challenge." I like some of the designs. I'm intrigued by the world. I want to like this game. I've given them +1 star for that, because I don't feel like this was a total waste of time, and I like it enough that I might try to slog it out, but right now I just can't make myself play it. No. I recommend a hard pass on this one.
