Description
Maize is a first-person adventure game about what happens when two scientists misinterpret a memo from the U.S. Government and create sentient corn. And that last sentence is pretty much the least ridiculous thing about the game.

Explore an abandoned farm and a not-so-abandoned underground research facility as you uncover the mysteries around Maize, and possibly learn a bit about yourself along the way. Or maybe not.

With a colourful cast of characters and an absolutely absurd world, Maize offers up a unique experience that keeps the surprises coming. Seriously, they’re everywhere.
  • Immerse yourself and explore Maize’s fully-realized environment, featuring a cornucopia of areas to explore (see what we did there?)
  • Solve environmental puzzles that get more and more absurd the further you delve into the adventure
  • Uncover the secrets of Maize’s world, as you try and figure out what it is the corn really want, aside from a very good nap
  • Meet some friends and enemies along the way, which include a very small grumpy Russian robot bear and an unhinged corn stalk who’s a bit of a jerk

Relies on humor, but isn't funny

Maize is a pretty average adventure game. The story revolves around its attempts at comedy, but it all just ends up with characters calling each other stupid. That's it. The script repeats "you're an idiot", "this is so stupid" and "moron!" over and over as if it were a punch line. If you have the sense of humor of an 8-year old, you'll probably love this game! Everyone else: don't bother.

Oof

Competent and colourful visuals. Tolerable music and good voice acting. Non-stop failed attempts at humour. Trash dialogues. I wish I could return to an age at which I'd be able to find this funny. My rolled-eyes count is twenty times higher than the number of times my nostrils emitted a slightly accelerated breath. Which was twice. I got this for 5€ and feel bad for wasting two hours on it. Item descriptions more often than not tell you exactly where to use stuff. Piles of boxed randomly close off or open paths. On screen messages or character lines tell you about those changes. Oof. Not going to muscle through this. Sorry :-/

Fun...ny...ish

To be blunt, Maize is a pretty generic puzzle adventure that tries too hard but is, occasionally, pretty funny. It feels like the developers really poured themselves into this game, and I honestly wish I could rate it higher, but I'm not going to. The puzzles are simple and lacklustre at best, and nothing more than annoying treks back and forth across the facility/farm at worst. They're all too often the later. The story, while somewhat original and somewhat humorous, is fairly contrived and spends way to much time trying to be funny. It fails most of the time. In all, Maize is a good diversion if it's on sale and you have an afternoon to kill, but it's not worth more than $10(as of writing, it's $20) and, to be honest, you probably are better off playing one of those games you bought on a summer sale for $1 and just haven't gotten around to yet.

Fun little game

Maize is a fun little adventure game/walking simulator. Decently written, funny more often than not and has a good heart. Recommend when it's on sale and you want something a bit different.

My kids loves this

I'd personally give this game a 4/5, but my 11 yo and 6 yo loved this game. It's essentially a walking simulator, don't be fooled to think there is any deep gameplay or puzzle solving in here. But it is nonetheless a pretty unique experience that is worth your time and money. Especially in good company.
