Not even 10% of the original

Compared to the original Mafia 2 this game is extremely disapointing. Graphics - Minor improvements from the original (shadows, reflections) but very high gpu requirements, sometimes runs worse than the Mafia 1 remake which looks 100 times better. - Alot of random items like newspapers, trash bins or character clothes just flicker constantly Gameplay - Did not see any improvement here besides maybe some cars or weapons physics - New crash to desktop random events if you reload to many times DLC - These were frustrating in the original as well but in the Definitive Edition they reach a new peak - Enemies with shotguns will snipe you from greater distances than the ones having rifles - In car chases you are practically a bullet sponge, 90% of the bullets will always hit you and if you last more than 10 seconds in a chase for sure the game glitched or something as most of the times you get insta-killed in 3 seconds or less. - Mission checkpoints are either inexistent or placed with completely no logic. - Difficulty is greatly increased than before to the point where it's not at all challenging, just a reason to uninstall or play on easy. I absolutely loved the original version no matter how much it frustrated me here and there, but this Definitive Edition is not worth the effort. Get it at the lowest possible discount and play on easy mode.

Poor performance, terrible remaster

Game struggles on 12400/4800S and is full of bugs. Great story, great game, terrible remaster. Traumatic experience.

Give it a go despite the reviews!

It's a great game. It has a GTA feel, but it's just feels nicer. The cars are great. Winter is great. Story I enjoyed a lot. Little touches in the world, like the cleaning lady eavesdropping make the world feel alive. Gun mechanics, police mechanics, shops, are all really enjoyable. I tried Mafia 2 classic and I couldn't play for 5m without glitches; Mafia 2 Definitive Edition ran smoothly the whole time (there was one place with double dialogues and some lighting glitches - negligible). It also looks really good on max detail, very very noticeable improvement over the classic version. Once I gave it a go, I couldn't stop. 5/5

Fantastic game... at first

I didn't bother with the rushed remaster, so I went straight with classic, which itself already felt rushed. The game's strongest point is the story. Dialogues are very well written and the performances are pretty good most of the time. The story has a good start and a strong follow up. It kept me hooked for days, looking forward to how the crime empire falls, since that's how all mafia stories go. Sadly, I was disappointed during the last chapters. Without going too much into spoilers, the segway into the climax and ending feels weird. In fact, by the time the credits rolled I felt absolutely nothing. I even doubt the final cutscene is over a minute long, the whole sequence feels very incomplete, totally unlike the first 10 chapters. For a game that kept me hooked to the very end, it was very disappointing Being the first Mafia game I played for more than an hour (and the fact that I got this for free), I don't feel ripped off. It deserves the praise it gets and at times it could definitely match the greatest mafia movies of all time. The characters, plot and setting is very memorable and I liked every single character. Also, robbing stores is simple but really, really fun, lol. This is definitely worth checking out at a good discount, but keep your expectations low for the ending.
