Machinarium is our first full-length adventure game in which players take on the role of a robot who has been exiled to the scrap heap. You must use logic, collect important items, and solve environmental puzzles to get the robot back into the city of Machinarium so he can rescue his robot girlfriend, save the head of the city, and defeat the bad guys from the Black Cap Brotherhood.
Machinarium is a prime example of why point ‘n’ click adventure games are not dead. It was created by people who clearly love the genre with aim to deliver a top-notch entertainment for all those gamers who really miss the magical world of adventure games. And boy did the developers deliver! Every element--even the smallest ones--are crafted with exceptional care and polish by people who clearly knew what they were doing and loved it. This level of detail is hard to find in most modern games that seem to be mass produced, so it is a very refreshing feeling to see a title that is made with such care and passion.
Honored with numerous prestigious gaming awards such as “Excellence in Visual Art” (Independent Games Festival) and Best Soundtrack (PC Gamer in 2009).
A classic point ‘n’ click gameplay with a modern flavor revitalizes the adventure genre in exciting ways.
Beautiful and enchanting soundtrack that melds classical and futuristic tunes memorably.

The soft, beautiful visuals and the perfect accompaniment of the music result in a game that will captivate you from start to finish. Almost instantly you form a bond with your character and feel emotionally attached to him. It's truly remarkable that such a simple flash game can give you such a wonderful experience. The puzzles are creative and well made, and if you do get stuck then you have in-game hints. My only gripe is that the minigame you play to view the hints gets tedious after the first few times.
After making some cool but very short games, Amanita Design makes a full-length game - Machinarium, and brilliantly manages to keep along the game the magic and uniqueness of its products.
Machinarium's story is rather short and simple, but in contrary to many adventure games, the focus here isn't really on the story. The graphics and music are simply stunning, characters are adorable, and I found the puzzles mostly entertaining.
Some things do ruin the game a bit - the minigame towards the end is a real pain. The game has some minor bugs in the controls and for some reason you may often lose your saved game, and this issue wasn't solved officially as far as I know.
And the ending...well, I won't tell much except for saying that there's not much to tell.
Nonetheless, the overall experience is amazing, and totally justifies the game's price.
Highly recommended!
The storyline, and music is all great. The graphics - amazing! Couldn't be any better. The character and world building is also really good. I cared about the main protagonist robot and his girlfriend, and they were all very cute and loveable. Dialog is in pictures with no words at all but this is all very intuitive and understandable - I think this is an amazing feat. High level of detail put into this.
The puzzles themselves, were not always obvious, not like gemini rue or the longest journey (which I really like). But this makes for great satisfaction. I'm the sort of person who would play this over several days and slowly work out the puzzle at my own pace, so I was pretty happy to explore all the rooms again and talk and try more combinations.
There are also logic puzzles, like a move a bead and things like that, and I actually liked that. I didn't think there were too many and you can always consult the hintbook to get through it (which as other people have pointed out, has a thing to discourage you from using too often). These puzzles aren't unsolvable and are doable with a bit of thinking. I thought it was a good distraction.
Overall, I had this feeling of "Someone put in a lot of love into this!" and I consider it one of the best adventure games I've played.
My wife is totally against our 8 and 5 year boys playing any video games. And I agree. Most of the video games are not kid friendly with their violent content and fast moving gaphics.
But this is one game that she had made exception. The reason is almost still and serene graphics which is so soothing to eyes and calm music. My both boys absolutely love it including their parents. The puzzles might be too hard for kinds as young as my boys but they do not mind to look at hints and try the walkthrough.
A friend of mine bought me this game for Christmas one year thinking I'd enjoy it. He was definitely right. I finished the game in about 3 days as it was all I could do in what spare time I had (when I should have been doing school work). It was engaging, imaginative and challenging with just the right amount of draw. Like a good book I couldn't put this game down. A must for those who love puzzling games and wondrous artwork.
