Being a Princess is not an easy job. Being a Queen is even harder. Especially when you're only fourteen years old, and the reason you've inherited the throne is that your royal mother has just met an untimely end.

Now power is up for grabs. You may be the official heir, but much of the country's nobility would love to steal the throne for themselves. Aggressive neighbors will take advantage of any weakness to enlarge their borders at your expense. And that's not even mentioning the magical dangers which are lying in wait...

Can you survive long enough to reach your coronation?

Princess Maker 2 Light

Those who have played the Princess Maker 2 will find this game most intriguing, but unfortunately they will also find that this game is not half as good as PM2 was. The game is short and too linear. You guide your queen-to-be across the same setting of decisions and only difference is what skills you have. After one successful play I recognized several ways how to alter the game ending just by choosing little differently. For me it takes away replay value, because you know what to do differently next time. And there isn't really that many different options to choose from. Also the decisions you make doesn't really show much, for example the only concrete thing about raising or lowering taxes is how much money you have at your disposal. You just succeed in different skill-checks and failure doesn't seem to be registered. Also after several plays you know what event will come next. The relationship drama is also very hollow. You are supposed to marry someone, but you are not given any ways to interact with them. It seems you have to make the decision with little information and for me, there wasn't enough to connect with any of them. Long Live the Queen is just a snack in terms of gameplay. Couple hours of fun and some replay value, but not much else. For PM2 players like myself this game could be a disappointment. For others, this game would be a nice change.

So enjoyable I bought it twice.

Here, and on Hanako site, because I wanted to get my hands on beta stuff so much. And you know what? No regrets. Do I wish this game was longer? Heh, sure do. But it's already a fun ride as is, and with all the achievments hidden around I'm gonna replay the hell of it. It's like Princess Maker: Prepare to Die edition. And that's awesome.

Enjoyable

A fun jaunt that allows you to play with leveling and skills to kill your princess... I mean become Queen. The interface could be a tad more intuitive and allow you to skip dialogue you've already seen. That said these kind of games are rare and even when you see them are rarely well done. This one might not be the best game going but it is good fun of a style I'd enjoy seeing more of in future.

Definately very entertaining

First off: when it comes to looks of the game, you either like it or not. You're a princess and are going to become a queen within a year. I explicitly say within a year, because I thought I had 51 or 52 weeks when it turned out I had a lot less. When you start the game out it looks quite complex, but in all reality it's very simple. Here's the breakdown: You study up to two classes a week to get points/levels in your skills. Afterwards an event may take place and depending on what skills you've been focussing on, you might pass the event well or not. You could even end up dying. The fun is comes at not knowing what happens next. Which some people may like or may not like. It IS however a story from beginning to end. When replaying you will play the majority of same events, but you could take a different route and get a very different outcome. That's the charm of this game. Depending on the princess' mood, she can either get a boost or penalty studying skills. Events alter your mood, but more importantly, the way you spent your weekends. So you want to plan ahead how you will play the game. The music in the game is simple but it works, The only negative point to me is the length. I had hoped for a lot more weeks to play so it came a bit unexpected to me. Overall verdict: It has an interesting story but it's pretty tough to memorize everyone and everything. (Imagine how our princess feels). This game will entertain you and soon you wish it wasn't over so soon. :)

An Iron Fist in a Velvet Glove

Imagine FTL, but with Princess Maker-esque gameplay and art, and a Song of Ice and Fire-style storyline -- that's what Long Live the Queen is like. The game is well-written and delightfully ruthless; teach Elodie the appropriate skills, and you'll find yourself able to assassinate rivals, meddle with noble house successions and lay waste to your enemies. I was seriously thinking as I played: if I had a daughter, I'd absolutely get her to try this game. I bet she'd have a blast.
