Mature content notice: Leisure Suit Larry - Wet Dreams Don't Dry contains explicit language, strong sexual themes, partial nudity and is intended for mature audiences.

Hey ladies, I’m back in business! My new adventure, Leisure Suit Larry - Wet Dreams Don’t Dry, takes me – whatever the route or twist of fate – from the end of the ’80s directly into the 21st century and wow, how the world has changed! While my view of the world and women from way back in the 1980s collides with modern reality harder than the breasts of a lusciously stacked blonde jogging along a beach, I’m all set to date my way across the modern world!

In a “point & click” adventure I’d call typical for the genre we mutually experience how I fall head-over-heels in love with Faith, the hot-to-trot assistant to the boss at Prune, a technology enterprise successful worldwide. Since even dating is done digitally nowadays, the first thing I have to do is to work on my score at Timber, the totally hip, can’t-get-anywhere-without-it dating app where I date women, satisfy their needs, and accordingly pick up points for my Timber profile. And whenever I get a chance in between, always briefly check out a few new bikini pix at Instacrap – the 21st century is gnarly smill!

  • Leisure Suit Larry is coming in the 21st century – and no, there’s no word missing here
  • Explore a lovingly designed, non-linear game world set in the modern world with over 30 handdrawn venues
  • Use “Timber”, the ingame app, along with an innovative dating mechanism to date women, consequently improve your score at Timber, and ultimately clear the way to get to Faith, the women of your dreams
  • Solve true-blue puzzles and interact with over 30 handdrawn characters

Genuinely entertaining and not overdone

This reboot of the titular Leisure Suit Larry features a charming art style and point-and-click adventure gameplay that never get too frustrating. It's absolutely brilliant to just have Larry appear inexplicably in the modern age. His escapades translate perfectly into some cute tongue-in-cheek satire as he tries his hand at online dating. Gameplay-wise, many of the common issues from Sierra games-past are solved: you can never enter an unwinnable state and the game conveniently offers to highlight interactive items. Dying brings you right back so there is no penalty if you want to experiment. Almost all the puzzles in the game have varying levels of hints. A plus is there is minimal moon logic. However, most of the game is a fetch quest for items other characters specifically ask for. Many of the remaining puzzles almost solve themselves. It's still entertaining, but less ingenuity is required than other adventure games. It mainly rewards careful observation and good memory. The sex jokes aren't as overdone as in the sequel. I surely laughed out loud, especially on one particular date. The satire is paced well enough not to get stale. The game generally runs well on WIndows 10. There are a few minor bugs and typos but nothing that detracts from the experience. The Overall, a decent game that definitely gets better as you get into it. It's a fun experience, but not exactly a must-play.

Just a high quality Larry adventure

The GAMEPLAY experience is extremely high for the series, around the top for sure. Puzzles almost always seem extremely obvious and logical in hindsight or make it worth your while to be extremely stupid and confusing. It's FAR more forgiving than an adventure game like this has any right to be. There's a few overtly cruel and pointless faux-game-overs that returning players would expect, too. The environment is so thoroughly written and voiced that just exploring through the city areas will eventually guide you to a conclusion without grinding a lot of possible item combinations. The writing and dialogue are great even if it gets a bit European flavored in spots. The jokes are (still) very dated and plenty lame but the execution is often better than the "core" Larry games. Larry (or the player) is still the butt of every joke. There isn't any political statement but there is a LOT of "old man yells at cloud" and that goes great with the man out of time premise. The characters are mostly 2D comedy stereotypes but as they progress through the story with you many of them get a lot of time to shine. There's not a lot left behind because their gag was over, everything gets reused over and over and fleshes out the relatively small environments well. CONS: It's not heavy on bugs but you absolutely need to save regularly. At one point I was terrified that I accidentally crafted an item twice around 3/4ths of the way through the game and had a separate save just in case I had to roll back a few hours. The game gets pretty empty as you finish the side character stories. As the "main plot" speeds up the characters remaining in your environment thin out and have less impact on anything. The last 2-3 girls have barely any impact on anything except as a puzzle roadblock. The dating app premise might as well not even be in the game. The point system calls back to the old score systems but there's not a lot of jokes in or around the profiles or anything.

Disappointing

I pretty much agree, but to add two things I don't see other reviews mention: * The user interaction is not that well thought out. Just a few examples: You cannot pause the game when someone is talking, and you're likely to accidentally skip lines of dialog by clicking. Using keyboard shortcut to close inventory unselects the item, so instead you have to drag the cursor outside of the inventory, and wait for it to disappear. * The game has no autosaving, which would be fine if there were no major bugs, but unfortunately it's not that hard to get into a state where the game becomes unresponsive, requiring you to terminate it and start from the last hard save.

Do not recommend

I was looking for something to play and I didn't even remember buying this game, and I wish I hadn't because it was by far one of the worst in the series. It only took me a few hours to get through. The interface and mechanics were pretty on point, but I just can't get past how dry this game was. I'm sooooo glad they've managed to immortalize Trump for the next generation. I know they're trying to make fun of the guy, but all they've done is shown how burned up they are about him and letting him live rent free in their heads. It seems the days of just having fun, wacky games are gone. Everything has to be political these days as well as overly politically correct. This game was a massive disappointment.

Modernized nostalgia trip, ok on a sale

Nice to see Larry again after all those years/decades when the original Larrys were the naughty thing. As usual, Larry gets portrayed as a typical goofer, fooled and failed by the women he hopes to conquer. Well, I guess he always was a bit like that. Graphics suit the Leisure Suit, and its a good upgrade from the old while keeping much of the spirit. Not that I actually remember what it was really like back then. But it felt fine. Story is a bit meh, and Larry does not score much at all in the game which is a shame. But his light-hearted spirit and willingness to go for it make it good light entertainment. The puzzles are partly logical and partly pull up the walkthrough stuff. Not that different from general P&C games then. Tries a bit of modern political preaching but not too much and not all the way forced so thats fine. It does a nice try of showing what it is to throw someone from the 80's into the modern world of Tinders and whatever. I can somewhat relate. Some hours of light entertaining with a walkthrough and a sale I would say.
