In this original mix of Dungeon Management and Roguelite, you will lead your career as a Dungeon Manager!

Features

  • Join the Dungeons Company and climb the corporate ladder
  • Crush so-called "heroes" and protect the company's treasures
  • Hire monsters, manage your employees and your stock of traps
  • Deal with employee strikes and other fun events

RogueDefender

Each run will be different but players will keep some of their Master's bonuses between runs. Like we've already mentioned, our game is a mix between Roguelite and Dungeon Management. How did we achieve that? By running many tests to find the perfect balance between management and dungeon phases!

Dungeon Phase

First, you will have to plan your defense against a group of adventurers. Check their stats and resistances, then place the best traps and monsters to defeat them! When you think your dungeon is ready, let the crawl begin!

You will then be able to watch those heroes die! It's a reversed dungeon crawler: heroes will move through your dungeon and will trigger the traps you placed. When a group of adventurers encounters a group of monsters you positioned in your dungeon, a turn-based fight will happen!

Games/Series that inspired us:

HeroQuest (Board Game), Naheulbeuk (French audio series), Kaamelott (the best French series), Monty Python (English series).

Video games: Darkest Dungeon, Slay the Spire, Dungeon Keeper, Final Fantasy, Divinity, For the King, Chroma Squad, Battle Brothers, West of Loathing and so many more...

Game developed and published by Goblinz Studio SAS (France).

A little TOO meh

It's not the worst game I've played, but certainly not the best. It can be fun to just kind of play it and go through the motions, but actually putting in effort tends to make you feel disappointed by the RNG even when it's in your favor. It just doesn't really feel balanced. You play it through one time and the enemies absolutely thrash you because of what you got. Then the next you get a comp that makes things extremely boring. I got an item one run which made my first team comp nearly unkillable because they would get healed for way too much when attacking. Sure the dice could've rolled in such a way that the enemies we went up against could kill them, but then it would feel really awful too since that was the most overpowered comp I had. It's just a little too reliant on RNG. Things swing too much in either direction. The inability to predict what's coming means sometimes you can just get screwed. But in other cases you might just accidentally have the perfect comp and then you still don't feel great because it wasn't your own planning and strategy. Usually I'm ok with games that completely remove RNG on attacks, but I'd prefer something that feels really straightforwardly satisfying towards your own tactics/strategy. Like Xcom where your tactical sense leads to a victory in spite of sometimes having to take risky shots. But I could be bothered to play more if I felt SOME kind of motivation to do so. I think the second biggest reason for the low star rating would be that the only character I even want to play with is locked behind DLC. I don't feel tempted to buy it either. If the base game had one good char that I was really happy with then I'd play with them and enjoy it and explore it further. And maybe I'd be tempted to get a DLC with more content to continue to do so and look at other characters. I'm sorry but I just can't get past these and I just don't feel any magnetism toward the game as a result.

Not a strategy game. Way to much RNG

This is not a strategy game. It is literally a gambling game with way too much randomness. The tutorial is woefully inadequate. I am supposed to pick a team of monsters (with some of my monsters being randomly disabled due to garrison issues). But to make strategic pick I need to know what enemies I will be facing or at least a pool of possible enemies (totally random). I don't even know the order or rooms (traps, spell, monster). This is ludicrous. I have been playing for few hours and never could figure out how to spend talent points. I have 1 apparently but the UI is so bad I cannot figure out how to spend it. The archivist says I have all these relics but I do not know how to equip any of them. The obvious of clicking on empty relic boxed in main screen does not work. This UI needs drag n drop but no the dev's went for cute and useless instead. My main boss suddenly changed his main attack power (for the worse btw especially since it no longer fit my monsters). Why did it change. Can I choose what changes and to what. Can I change it back ?. None of it is explained in game. There is a wiki but it is just a rehash of the inadequate tutorial. I do not appear to be able to see any buffs enemies have. So throw an attack and it gets absorbed by a shield I could not see. It is to the point where I just might as well take random monsters, random traps and place them randomly and have them use random skill on random target. It is about as effective as trying "strategy". This is literally a dice throwing game. 1-2 you loose, 3-4 is whatever, 5-6 you win maybe. My debufs like poison do not appear to stack but I cannot see which ones are already applied and for example all poison ones look identical (green skull) When I get a choice of mission there is no actual choice at all. What is the difference between Adventurers or Veterans missions. The mission brief is exactly identical (and also woefully inadequate). Stay away from this game it is an aggravation made manifest

Something Something Whip!

I got sent a discount of this game by GOG and I though... eh, why not, it's cheap. It's everything it promises to be, turn based combat with you playing the demons. For me it's a "have it running on the other monitor while streaming something" game.

Hugely promising. Loving it so far.

I'm really enjoying this so far and it can only (one would assume) get better with more content. It's effectively playing the baddies in a game in the style of Darkest Dungeon. Theme-wise it's lighter than DD and has a somewhat comedic slant, though the animations are suitably gruesome with some fun pixel art. The fights are tactical and the management/event sections between fights are fun and interesting. A good variety of minions are available, though the number of different enemy types is slightly lacking at this stage. It's very polished as it is, but being in development, I'm excited to see what else will be added by final release. I honestly feel I've got my money's worth (paid full price) already, even at the stage it's at right now. My review score is based on the fun I've had so far, and on the assumption that the development arc continues in the promising manner it has so far. I'll revisit this review post-release to give final thoughts then

Decent Game

A game where YOU can feel being a dungeon master in a fantasy world where everyone is trying to steal the treasures you dear to protect. I love how there is certain mechanics on the game that you may choose instead of the usual 1 option. This game is for you if you like : Fantasy Monsters Dungeons Being Villain
