Legend of Grimrock is a dungeon crawling role playing game with an oldschool heart mated with modern execution. A group of prisoners are sentenced to certain death by exile to the secluded Mount Grimrock for vile crimes they may or may not have committed. Unbeknownst to the captives, the mountain is riddled with ancient tunnels, dungeons and tombs built by crumbled civilizations of days long past. If they ever wish to see daylight again and reclaim their freedom, the ragtag group of prisoners must form a team and descend through the mountain, level by level.
The game brings back an oldschool challenge with highly tactical real-time combat and grid-based movement, devious hidden switches and secrets as well as deadly traps and horrible monsters. Legend of Grimrock puts an emphasis on puzzles and exploration, and the wits and perception of the player are more important tools than even the sharpest of swords would be. And if you are a hardened dungeon crawling veteran and you crave an extra challenge, you can arm yourself with a stack of grid paper and turn on the Oldschool Mode, which disables the luxury of the automap! Are you ready for some classic dungeon-crawling first person perspective party-based RPG action? Are you ready to venture forth and unravel the mysteries of Mount Grimrock?
Use the Dungeon Editor to build entirely new adventures and challenges for other players to solve!
Explore a vast network of ancient tunnels, discover secrets, and find a way to survive in the perilous dungeons of Mount Grimrock.
Cast spells with runes, craft potions with herbs, and fight murderous monsters with a wide variety of weapons.
Create a party of four characters and customize them with different races, classes, skills, and traits.
Pure-blooded dungeon crawling game with grid-based movement and thousands of squares, riddled with hidden switches, pressure plates, sliding walls, floating crystals, forgotten altars, trapdoors, and more.

Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
Dungeon Master was the reason I bought an Atari ST a long time ago. This is a perfect update on that, with an excellent blend of monsters and puzzles. I've played to level 8 and love the game - way better and more intelligent than most big-budget titles out there today.
Moody and slick modern day Dungeon Master/Eye of the Beholder. This is what dungeon starved D&D fans have been craving for years. An instant classic.
Did you love Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder and Black Crypt? Then Legend of Grimrock is for you. This game managed to find a great balance between the old school feel and taking advantage of newer hardware. I almost never preorder or buy without trying a demo, but I took a chance on this one. I was not disappointed. I'm fairly sure I am nearing the end, and the only thing I could wish for is more. I'd like to be able to max out two skill trees at least. Also, this has run flawlessly, even during several hour sessions.
If you're over the age of 25, this will be a fun trip down memory lane. If you were born after Kurt Cobain died, then come take a look at the good old days. This game took me straight back to all the classic first-person dungeon crawlers I played in my tween years in the early '90s, with the added benefit of modern graphics and stability...and not having to free up DOS memory before I play!
I've been waiting for someone to readapt the FPDC format to modern tech, and I finally got my wish. At the same time, it doesn't feel like a complete nostalgia trip; it's also a very solid, entertaining game in its own right that never grows boring. There is no possible way that one could ever regret plunking down a meager $14 for this.
Get it.
NOW.
Back when i owned an Amiga my two favourite games were 'Eye of the Beholder' and 'Black Crypt'. I lovede the combination of combart and puzzle solve, occasionally thrown at you at the same time. (Hint to GOG - PLEEZE Get "Black Crypt'!!! Like, ASAP!)
I prepurchased L.O.G. purely because of the gameplay promised. I am NOT disappointed, even though I'm still stuck on how to get the Magic to actually work. The Potions I've mastered, those $^$%^&^*& Runes elude me.
Unlike others I prefer to have a Map available. I tend to get lost if I have to " FLEE FOR YOUR LIVES! THERES 3 OF THE BASTIDS IN THERE!!!" Result, the last monster catches me before I find the last refuge spot, mapless.
I am liking this game, a lot. Its not the best game ever, but is pretty darn good. (the 4 star is cos of my issue with magic runes. How in hey DO they work?)
