Legend of Grimrock is a dungeon crawling role playing game with an oldschool heart mated with modern execution. A group of prisoners are sentenced to certain death by exile to the secluded Mount Grimrock for vile crimes they may or may not have committed. Unbeknownst to the captives, the mountain is riddled with ancient tunnels, dungeons and tombs built by crumbled civilizations of days long past. If they ever wish to see daylight again and reclaim their freedom, the ragtag group of prisoners must form a team and descend through the mountain, level by level.
The game brings back an oldschool challenge with highly tactical real-time combat and grid-based movement, devious hidden switches and secrets as well as deadly traps and horrible monsters. Legend of Grimrock puts an emphasis on puzzles and exploration, and the wits and perception of the player are more important tools than even the sharpest of swords would be. And if you are a hardened dungeon crawling veteran and you crave an extra challenge, you can arm yourself with a stack of grid paper and turn on the Oldschool Mode, which disables the luxury of the automap! Are you ready for some classic dungeon-crawling first person perspective party-based RPG action? Are you ready to venture forth and unravel the mysteries of Mount Grimrock?
Use the Dungeon Editor to build entirely new adventures and challenges for other players to solve!
Explore a vast network of ancient tunnels, discover secrets, and find a way to survive in the perilous dungeons of Mount Grimrock.
Cast spells with runes, craft potions with herbs, and fight murderous monsters with a wide variety of weapons.
Create a party of four characters and customize them with different races, classes, skills, and traits.
Pure-blooded dungeon crawling game with grid-based movement and thousands of squares, riddled with hidden switches, pressure plates, sliding walls, floating crystals, forgotten altars, trapdoors, and more.

This isn't for the CoD crowd or any of the Ritalin kids, LoG will welcome you into its depths and penetrate your psyche. Set aside a weekend, turn off the lights and put on the headphones. It's old-school time and it ROCKS!
This is an outstanding revival of the Dungeon Master type game from the 80s and 90s. I remember playing Dungeon Master on a frieds Amiga 1000 and mapping out every nook and cranny of the dungeon.
Grimmrock captures every essence of the old game with the square type of movement. Early in the game every item is important. Finding a rock, knife, some gear to wear, all to keep your team of four prisoners alive. Fighting creatures requires strategy as well as knowing where you're at so you can you back to gain a more favorable position. It is very difficult to go toe to toe with 4 skeleton ghosts with spears.
I highly recommend this game for any fan of RPG and for younger gamers as well looking for a fun challenge.
What do you need to know about Grimrock? It's Dungeon Master and if you like DM, than you will love Grimrock. Only thing I am missing is an option for turnbased combat. Realtime clicking is allways a bit too hectic for me, especially when it comes to magic and using items. But that might be just me and as I said: If the RT didn't bother you in DM than Grimrock is a clear must-buy. The gameplay-comfort is just perfect: It feels like an oldschool game but has enough controllmechanics, helpfull tools and onscreen help that it doesn't feel dated at any time (only in a good way).
The Graphic might be a little generic after a while, but it's not ugly and gets the job done and for an indiegame it's really nice. The sound on the other hand is just fantastic and enhances the atmosphere perfectly. I like that it's all about sound, not music. Feels very immersive.
The amount of gametime is also really good: For 15 bucks you'll get many hours of dungeon crawling and a good balance of combat, exploring and puzzles will trigger that "just 5 more minutes..."
Difficulty Level (at least on "normal") is very motivating: Easy to learn but challenging. Always fair, and you're only screwed if you messed up by yourself. And when it gets really hard, most of the times you can somehow make your life easier by using your environment - which just adds to the addicting flow of the game.
This game is somehow a masterpiece of art, it has some old school graphics and mechanics, but it will get frustratingly hard if you think it will be as easy as those modern games. First of all, this game is made to be played, not to be promoted or money related stuff. It was a time when developers made games for fun and for the community of players, not for money.
But here appears from nowhere Legend of Grimrock which brings a ray of hope in our souls that not everything is lost in the dark days of modern simplified games. The combat is a little repetitive,it requires some strategy because the monsters are very hostile and the loot will be a little under your expectations.Other than this, I can't blame this game for anything else. Totally deserves the 15 bucks!
