The Last Express

This game was pretty much the single most important game of my childhood, closely followed by the Myst series. I still know most of this game by heart and I am absolutely thrilled that it's still available. The only problem for me is that I run a Mac without BootCamp -- does anyone know if there is a way to port this to Mac?

Played this again after ten years and it still is the masterpiece I remembered it was. I have played nearly every adventure game in the 80's and 90's but this is truly exceptional. One of the best. Because of real-time element and some periods of time where there's nothing to do, this might not suit everyone.

This is by far my favorite all-time game. Nothing else had pulled me in and immersed me in another word like this has. Like many others here, I'm constantly disappointed by the unending stream of unimaginative, generic 3d games coming out for the latest generation of super-computers. Instead, I look to old games like this, where characters come alive, storylines shine, and substance was more important than an unending barrage of special effects.

This game attempts real-time adventure in a unique and exciting setting. The developers must have invented a lot of effort in the graphic novel style video sequences. Minor flaws: I guess this was a first effort. Gameplay could be better, for example movement could be less disorienting. But one gets used to it. Also, sometimes the time to solve the tasks is very short. The game runs only in a small DOS box on my computer, a larger box or full screen would be much better. This cries for a "remastered" edition.

I'll be brief. This was the most unique gaming experience I've ever had - never before, and most likely never again, has a game given such a sense of presence. Rather than moving from checkpoint to checkpoint, the world of The Last Express moves around you and won't wait for you if you miss a step. The passengers react to you, and the train feels real. Do yourself a favour and experience this game for yourself.
