Lamplight City

A classic point & click adventure, just the way I like it. Like most of the games Grundislav Games or Wadjeteye Games have published in recent years. The alternate world presented is fascinating and the mystery detective story is exciting. As with other games by Francisco Gonzalez, there is a progressive political undertone of justice and equality that I personally like. The technical realisation is well done, the backgrounds and characters are nicely drawn. The voice actors are well chosen (the well-known Grundislav & Wadjeteye cast) and fit the ambience of the game perfectly. And yes: like many here, I also think that the inspiration by "Gabriel Knight - Sins of the fathers" (1993 original release by Sierra) seems more than obvious. Lamplight City is perhaps to be understood as an homage to Jane Jensen...

A very nice point and click adventure. Good voice acting, good atmosphere and interesting world and characters.

The game is not really bad, but gameplay issues kill all the joy from playing. Two things make me gave up the game during the first episode. First, some unnoticed dialog choices may close an entire line of a plot. And you'll understand it while you have no save games. It's not critical for a walkthrough, you may continue, but adventure / visual novel games are about atmosphere, not about speed run, and the atmosphere became boring and displeased. Second, sometimes you should do something unrelated to move things ahead. Like, continue one line to be allowed continue in second despite there is no logical connection between. It's just annoying.

A really enjoyable adventure mystery game with a great storyline. I have finished once and am back playing it again. The gameplay is unique in that your actions have consequences. Your line of questioning may open a new clue to solve a case or it may lock out a witness closing one avenue of exploration. Unlike many games of this genre you are not simply following a single linear path to completion.

A detective story with 5 different intriguing cases to solve, I felt immediately drawer to this game, not only because of the story and the characters, but because of the dark, victorian setting in which the game is set. The comparison to Gabriel Knight 1 is understandable, partly because of the way the dialogue functions in the game and also because the fictional city of New Bretagne reminded me of some kind of Victorian-era New Orleans. The beautiful graphics and music play a bit part in setting the mood, and I was surprised by the length of the gameplay for such an indie game. I thoroughly enjoyed this game, and hope to get more stories about Miles and his ghostly sidekick in the future :)
