Konami Collector's Series: Castlevania & Contra

It was extremely difficult to figure out which buttons did what. It took me 10 minutes just to figure out how to bring up the options so I could see what the controls were.

A nifty collection I bought well before the Contra Collection or any of the Castlevania collections released. At the time, from a legacy perspective, it was neat, but it had massive limitations. Features the NES Castlevania trilogy and the first two Contra games for NES - and only localised roms in English. Only options configuration are universal control mapping, typical A + B, Start and Select. Offers save and load states, but no shortcuts or keybinds and only one per game, and also can only be played in fullscreen mode. Combined with barebones menus, it is a neat nugget of a bygone time where this was the ONLY collection on PC for these titles, but with Contra 1 through to Hard Corps existing with with their arcade ports and Japanese versions, alongside 3 Castlevania collections and the Requiem pack, there are considerably better polished alternatives.

What an abysmal UI (User Interface) ! 🤢🗑️ The games themselves are fine...great even, but oh that menu screen! 😱😨! It is without a doubt repulsive. Eye searing pain. It completely disallows any enjoyment to be gained. 👎

Historical games and well worth playing but the port is, frankly, quite bad. Aside the new menu being quite terrible you will encounter a number of problems with controller settings and support. I was expecting some additional features in terms of savegames and graphics filters... nothing of nothing. This is completely barebones. I'm sad now.

Rememeber when the No.1 sale point of GOG was that you could buy old game...that would SIMPLY WORK on modern computers? It all changed when Windows 10 came along. GOG was simply too lazy to adapt their games for Win10, This "collection" is another example. Do you have Windows 10? Dont expect a game. Expect "DirectDraw" Errors. And if you fix those, expect "KSS Indirect Draw" Errors. THIS GAME COLLECTION DOES NOT WORK!
