King's Quest 8

I played most of the KQ games back n the day, but it was KQ8 that started me on my path to ruin; that is, it ripped me away from my comfortable and familiar point and click adventure games and threw me into the dark, dark netherworld of action and combat. I thought it would be like the other KQ games, and flipped when I first realized it had combat...and more combat...and even more combat. But there came a point where I realized, somewhere around the 20th skeleton, that I was having freaking awesome fun. And I never looked back. I haven't played an adventure game since. Look, the graphics are dated, sure, and the story line is pretty cliché, but for its day it was a pretty darned good game. I'll probably have a go at it again, just for old times' sake.

SYSC- KQ7

I haven't played 8, so this review will only be about 7. To understand 7, you really have to look at what Sierra was trying to accomplish, and what the competition was at the time. Disney was getting good again, and they wanted to match that. This one is lively and full of colour with cutscenes and stuff. This is personally why this one's my favourite. It's so full of life and diversity. Everything from cute to creepy to mystic to exciting. The music in this game is a lot of fun too.

King's Quest 7: Princeless Bride.

My first touch to the genre. I wouldn't have bought the newest installment if it wasn't for this one kicking my nostalgia vein. Memorable characters, environment, puzzles, soundtrack and voice cast. True Sierra jewel to add into your collection of KQs. This game and many others have been an inspiration to my projects and suffices to say that it has never failed me for bringing wonderful ideas to life. Thanks GOG for reintroducing this game to my life! ❤

It is what it is not...

The game should not be sold as a package because of the fact they are two totally different games. But it is what it is, You cannot win them all. I remember playing KingQuest7 when i was a kid, It is very Disney and happy and "pretty" in all its own ways, but it is a good story behind it. I loved the game then and i love it more now. (but i think that's because i understand it more now that i am older) KingQuest8 - Mask of Eternity - was another childhood game for me, Though i never knew it was a King Quest game. It is very unique in its own way and takes place in a different time of the King quest games. King Graham is there, But really hes not, I never beat the game and probably never will, Only because i dont feel like this is a part of King Quest and because there are so many bugs i can never make it to the end. Good thing they have videos of "how to play" games. :)

Only for Preservation's Sake

I got this mostly for King's Quest 7, and while that wasn't as good as I'd remembered, it at least doesn't have that bug with the firecracker that makes it impossible to finish the game; I'd only ever played through it once because of that, and it was a huge pain to get to run. Unfortunately, the graphics are... weird. I imagine the grainy-looking backgrounds are a result of running this on a resolution never intended when this was created back in the '90s, but some of the sprites are only 2 colors; they look like I made them in MS Paint. I don't remember them ever looking like that, but maybe that's the fault of my memory. On the bright side, you can always tell when you can interact with something, because it looks all goofy. The actual game is alright; it's way too Disney in its art and its humor for my liking, but the worlds are beautiful and imaginative, and deaths don't set you back very far. King's Quest 8 is the only game in the series that wasn't part of the colletion that I picked up years ago, so this collection might also be worthwhile for that. Personally, I absolutely hate it; tank controls are already practically unplayable, in my opinion, but this has combat and platforming thrown into the mix. Then again, Resident Evil and Silent Hill are super popular, so what do I know? If you'd like to play a 3D RPG set in the world of King's Quest, and you're okay with these archaic controls, it might be for you.
