Become a hero in a fantasy world of fearless knights, evil mages, wise kings and beautiful princesses. Explore the land, command armies and accomplish quests for your king to reap great rewards... Or suffer devastating defeats.
The gameplay is divided into two major sections: adventure mode and tactics mode. While playing in adventure mode you control your hero in real-time, seeking various treasures, fighting monsters and accomplishing quests tasked to you by the local stewards. Once in tactics mode you assume the role of a war chief, leading your troops in tactical turn-based combat.
Battles take place on land or sea, in dungeons or castles or even in certain items! The hero himself doesn't participate in the combat, but can assist his troops by casting spells or summoning different creatures.
Absolutely addictive gameplay closely resembling the famous Heroes of Might & Magic series
A challenging, but at the same time familiar and intuitive, combat system
Charming, well-designed locations, full of subtle details
Art is nice, world looks cool, but it'd impossible to find things on the adventure map, no way to adjust camera that I could find that made tyhe game navigable.
I admit it! I'm an HOMM fanatic. Have played all 6. Have 4 of them on this monster machine ((III-VI) 6core AMD processor, 12G mem., GTX 660 video w/2G). This is a very good clone of that franchise! Good turn-based combat and colorful graphics. The story's decent. Not great...but enough fun that I've played through twice already! Because of the backtracking, prepare to spend about 40 hours with the game. Not bad when you get on sale on GOG.
I like the games but they're pretty damn flawed. Some areas just feel empty.
This one just bugged out and a ton of shops/NPCs do not respond anymore. I can't progress. I'm not re-installing 5GB on my SSD 10 times to test out different solutions. This is unacceptable.
I have played several homm games and have loved and played out all of them. I was looking for a game that I could play off and on like the other homm I have player prior. I have been playing this for a few days and I just can't bring myself to play it any longer. I find it dull and the game play is slow with the quests confusing, directionless, and pointless. When you are not in combat it feels and looks exactly like warecraft 3 solo. You are constantly turning angels to get a better view and every mob you have to run away from while attempting to click it to see if you are any where near ready to take it on and it gets wearing when you have to do this every time. Take a wrong turn? Congrats you were just wiped out by an impossible group. You can either save the game every 5 minutes or take it in the chops. If this is what is considered challenging, I'll pass. I read all the reviews and got excited based on my past homm but I didn't even make it past a week of light play.
What it has in beautiful graphics and seeming variety, it lacks in most other aspects. The gameplay is extremely repetitive and tedious, combat is a very linear affair, dialogues are unimportant as all hell, the story as well. Gave it a try due to liking turn-based games, seemed like it would have an interesting twist - but nope.
