Kingdom: New Lands - Skull Island
Kingdom New Lands now brings a 6th island to explore and develop. This will present the greatest challenge never-before-seen in Kingdom, and will put your every skill to the test. Can you survive the nights and be the ruler that your people need?

Tales spread of far off isles with mysteries waiting to be discovered. Rulers will need all the strength of their subjects to sail away and find new kingdoms in these New Lands.

Kingdom: New Lands builds upon the award-winning gameplay and mystery of Kingdom by introducing an abundance of new content to the IGF-nominated title while maintaining the simplicity and depth that legions of monarchs have come to experience and enjoy. Travel to the New Lands and welcome the deluge of new mounts, merchants, and vagrants that call these isles home, but be wary of the new obstacles that threaten your arrival -- for not just the greedy creatures block your way but even the environment itself can defeat you.

Be brave, ruler, and fight to the bitter end, lest these New Lands conquer you instead.

Wasting tens of hours

This is the second time I've bought a game in the Kingdom series. I bought the first Kingdom on steam a few years ago and while it was beautiful it was not, in my opinion a good game at all. I got the "New Lands" expandalone because I heard it was better, and I really liked the presentation so I bought it. I wish I hadn't. I played about 9 hours on a save file and died on the fourth or fifth island. I didn't know what to expect from respawning but it sent me back to the tutorial island but the islands you can choose to travel to inbetween missions were still unlocked. Here's the catch though, the later levels NEED you to bring some extra knights and builders with you, something you can do between levels. This means you may find yourself looking at an extra 3 hours or more to get back to the level you lost. To add to this my main gripe with the original game still remains, the RNG. You can find yourself in a level without the means to upgrade your base, or with the nearest recruitment camp needed to get more soldiers and workers behind several enemy portals. Both of these happened to me both in the original and in Kingdom: New Lands. The AI is also frustrating, at least I think so, this game seems to have a rather zealous and defensive community judging from some respones myself and other people on different forums (mostly steam and reddit) have gotten when asking about RNG, AI, replayability and so on. I would urge people looking to buy this to take some of the more positive with a pinch of salt (as you should always do). Back to the AI, I find it frustrating because it felt counterintuitive, your soldiers will sometimes run out from behind your walls and suicide by monster, your knights and their retinue will retreat from battle even while your artillery and towers still stands, robbing you of much needed fire power. Monsters can sometimes grab your characters from behind the walls aswell. Thank you for reading, I do not recommend this beautiful game.

You can't please everyone

This game is pretty straightforward with very few controls; you collect coins and spend them on things to build your defenses, train units, and cut down trees. This makes it very easy to play. However, it also makes it very hard to play for the same reason - how are you supposed to defend yourself if you can't command your units? What if you build your defenses on the wrong side of the map (halving your unit total)? What if you cut down one tree too many and your only available forest camp disappears? When are you supposed to upgrade your keep? I understand the lack of guidance makes for a more interesting game (for some), but for me, it was frustrating and I couldn't keep playing.

Skull Island

Answering to @azoltan comment: the GOG version (as of June 2018) does include Skull Island (in the main package, not as a separate DLC).

Playing it for free was a waste of time

(Review based on Epic Game Store version from free giveaway; I'd like people who spend money on this to know what they're getting into.) The art and sound are actually great, but the gameplay is barely there; and what's there is unexciting and frustrating. If the game explained anything, it would have been immediately apparent how shallow it was. So instead, the game hides everything to make you "explore." The problem is, exploration in this game is fundamentally unrewarding. Since the gameplay is shallow, there is only one way to win and it's fairly obvious once you know what everything does. There are no clever solutions to be found in your exploration. You keep trying random things until you find the one thing that's obviously the best. To hide that, the game slows down how fast you can explore by giving everything a non-refundable gold cost, and making gold trick in very slowly over time. Then, to hide how slowly gold tricks in, the game gives your horse a stamina bar, making it painfully slow to move across the map and explore, so by the time you're back to your base you'll have a meaningful amount of gold to do something with. In the end, none of it worked. The early gameplay consists of arbitrarily doing random things only to find them almost completely useless, and waiting for more gold to come in while you're holding down a direction key to slowly move from one place to another. Outside of that, there is very little game left.

Beautiful pixel art mini game.

My experience differs a lot from the other reviews stating frustration with randomness. I've just finished the game and got into what looks like to be "new game plus" without any issue. Provided you will understand the mechanics and tactics, the game becomes super easy. The only downside is that oftentimes in the beginning of latter levels you have to wait a lot during the night, cause there's nothing to do, or you just can't due to amount of enemies. In what my experience differers from the screenshots and video (as of 2016 Oct 22), i haven't seen: deer mount, armoured horse mount, waterfalls, red blooming tree, ballista tower, statue with the sword, enemy portal activation, graveyard background, mega siege monster (i've encountered big siege monsters, but not as big). So it's either hidden in "new game +", or has vanished with the updates. Overall game is beautiful, nice and relaxing. Pleasure to play, though feels repetitive after going through all the levels.
