Game:

You're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Thrust into a raging civil war, you watch helplessly as invaders storm your village and slaughter your friends and family. Narrowly escaping the brutal attack, you grab your sword to fight back. Avenge the death of your parents and help repel the invading forces!

Story:

Bohemia – located in the heart of Europe, the region is rich in culture, silver, and sprawling castles. The death of its beloved ruler, Emperor Charles IV, has plunged the kingdom into dark times: war, corruption, and discord are tearing this jewel of the Holy Roman Empire apart. One of Charles' sons, Wenceslas, has inherited the crown. Unlike his father, Wenceslas is a naive, self-indulgent, unambitious monarch. His half-brother and King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox, senses weakness in Wenceslas. Feigning good will, Sigismund travels to Bohemia and kidnaps his half-brother. With no king on the throne, Sigismund is now free to plunder Bohemia and seize its riches.

In the midst of this chaos, you're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Your peaceful life is shattered when a mercenary raid, ordered by King Sigismund himself, burns your village to the ground. By bittersweet fortune, you are one of the few survivors of this massacre.

Without a home, family, or future you end up in the service of Lord Radzig Kobyla, who is forming a resistance against the invasion. Fate drags you into this bloody conflict and shoves you into a raging civil war, where you help fight for the future of Bohemia.
  • Massive realistic open world: Majestic castles, vast fields, all rendered in stunning high-end graphics.
  • Non-linear story: Solve quests in multiple ways, then face the consequences of your decisions.
  • Challenging combat: Distance, stealth, or melee. Choose your weapons and execute dozens of unique combos in battles that are as thrilling as they are merciless.
  • Character development: Improve your skills, earn new perks, and forge and upgrade your equipment.
  • Dynamic world: Your actions influence the reactions of the people around you. Fight, steal, seduce, threaten, persuade, or bribe. It’s all up to you.
  • Historical accuracy: Meet real historical characters and experience the genuine look and feel of medieval Bohemia.

Bohemian RPG not for the faint of heart

I would sum this game up with what my 30 year old friend said about it in 2018: "It makes me get up early on saturday so I can play. It is adventurous, it feels like when I was little and games were exciting." As of February 2020, I haven't encountered any severe bugs during my extensive playthrough (I don't recall seeing any at all). There is a strong emphasis on roleplaying. Action comes second. The written script feels real, dialogues are not "over the top" power fantasy nonsense. Some quests may require no killing at all and can be extensively narrative. Like when there's an accident at a monastery being built and the quarry is blamed for providing low quality stone, you're sent in for investigation and it feels like a small Sherlock Holmes episode, and this is an optional quest! Later in the game, you have to become a monk and take the wov to find an undercover bandit among the monks, and while you can break in with a sword and kill everyone, the proposed way is to stay in the monastery and adhere to the daily schedule (wake up at 4, pray, breakfast with the bros, copy books, work the garden, pray, sleep), and if you're found wandering around the hallways or doing something illegal, you're gonna get locked for a day! It takes a while to pull this off, and many people find this quest tedious, but I loved it! But if you're looking for a casual experience, you may get very frustrated. The combat can be very hard until you learn it. Both as a player, and as Henry. Remember you start out as a peasant? You are given a sword, but you can only swing it and pray. You have to spend time training. When I first met a random Cuman in a forest, I felt so vulnerable, I just turned and bolted away. Some things I would point out: you build reputation with different classes in different cities; people react to you in a way that makes sense; you have to eat, but no too often; you have to earn your first horse; you can level up your horse riding. Get the Woman's lot DLC!

Buggy and terrible save system

I will try to get a refund for this game due to the game breaking bugs and terrible save system that compound on each other. example: I spent 15 minutes fighting one person just to have both of us falling through the map when we tangled, subsequently got stuck in a permanent loading screen then had to reload to a savepoint 45 MINUTES AGO. See the problem here?! I don't have time for this. It's not the bugs that bothers me, I can look past that. It is the save system makes it impossible for me to play this game. CHANGE IT then I will consider not refunding.

The Anti-Skyrim

I love both games but this is clearly the opposite of an open world like Skyrim. On a lot of aspect it feels like older Elder Scrolls. - Quality over Quantity : Small world but beautifully crafted. Your actions matter and changes the world, like clearing bandit camp will make the roads safes. - Realism over Grandiose : You're not fighting to save the world, but for the good of your homeland. - RPG mechanics with skills leveling over time on use. - Beautiful music. - The world is amazing, forests are life like, charcaters are well rendered and doesn't looks like NPC. - The story is heart wrenching, characters are well written and quest are most of the multi-paths and easily failable. - No hand holding, map markers are very vagues, often pointing you to a general zone, and you have to do some real detective work. - Combat is hard, and you will have to work your ass to be good enough, but no matter how well equiped and skilled, you will get muredered if you fight more than 3 opponements. The game is not perfect, there are some bugs, devs like to make you waste your time, the prison system is a bit annoying and damn that monastery quest is a nightmare. But appart from that, it is a fantastic game and you like a open worlds with a realistic setting, you should definitively give it a try.

74/100 just shows critics are stupid

Most AAA games are easy to get into and give a great first impression but after you sink 20 hours or so, more than any journalist will do, they turn up to be very shallow, boring and uninspiring. Kingdom Come eliverance is the opposite, it's hard to get into it but when you get past that initial learning curve there's an engaging well put open world with an story driven cRPG.

Good medieval RPG with a rushed end

Fantastic immersive RPG with a big world, where you can spend a lot of your time in. There are many glitches and the game, like flying enemies, texture pop ups and sometimes even quest blocking bugs, that are supposed to be fixed with the next big patch! The story is very cool, if you like the medieval European setting (and bohemian/central European history). The fist fight and lock pick system is not so great, but there are already mods out there that fix these issues. Optimization is not fantastic either, but it's playable on a good PC on medium settings. I had to take one star alone for the ending of the game. It feels really rushed and is "teasing" us with something interesting, that might happen very soon. Either a dlc will bring the rest of the story or maybe KC: Deliverance II ?
