Game:

You're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Thrust into a raging civil war, you watch helplessly as invaders storm your village and slaughter your friends and family. Narrowly escaping the brutal attack, you grab your sword to fight back. Avenge the death of your parents and help repel the invading forces!

Story:

Bohemia – located in the heart of Europe, the region is rich in culture, silver, and sprawling castles. The death of its beloved ruler, Emperor Charles IV, has plunged the kingdom into dark times: war, corruption, and discord are tearing this jewel of the Holy Roman Empire apart. One of Charles' sons, Wenceslas, has inherited the crown. Unlike his father, Wenceslas is a naive, self-indulgent, unambitious monarch. His half-brother and King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox, senses weakness in Wenceslas. Feigning good will, Sigismund travels to Bohemia and kidnaps his half-brother. With no king on the throne, Sigismund is now free to plunder Bohemia and seize its riches.

In the midst of this chaos, you're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Your peaceful life is shattered when a mercenary raid, ordered by King Sigismund himself, burns your village to the ground. By bittersweet fortune, you are one of the few survivors of this massacre.

Without a home, family, or future you end up in the service of Lord Radzig Kobyla, who is forming a resistance against the invasion. Fate drags you into this bloody conflict and shoves you into a raging civil war, where you help fight for the future of Bohemia.
  • Massive realistic open world: Majestic castles, vast fields, all rendered in stunning high-end graphics.
  • Non-linear story: Solve quests in multiple ways, then face the consequences of your decisions.
  • Challenging combat: Distance, stealth, or melee. Choose your weapons and execute dozens of unique combos in battles that are as thrilling as they are merciless.
  • Character development: Improve your skills, earn new perks, and forge and upgrade your equipment.
  • Dynamic world: Your actions influence the reactions of the people around you. Fight, steal, seduce, threaten, persuade, or bribe. It’s all up to you.
  • Historical accuracy: Meet real historical characters and experience the genuine look and feel of medieval Bohemia.

Fantastic Game

Truly a great game with so much to discover and hours of challenges. It starts out rather slow and is very frustrating since you have ZERO skills.. I wasn't sure I would enjoy it but ended up drawn into the Story and challenged myself to stick with it despite the really diffciult combat system. Really well designed Quests, humour, beautiful World, intersting NPC's, challengin Combat, etc... There are so many different approaches to completing quests depending on how your character developed it is mind boggeling, I have found after the latest patch that major Bugs are gone. Often what appears to be bugs is a missed step in a quest that will not let you complete something the way you want or not at all. It is all rather realistic and can be frustrating just as it would be in real life. I would recommend getting the Unlimited SaveMOD to make this game less frustrating .This way if something goes wrong you have an option. Otherwise it is just too Real. I have about 150 hours gameplay and not even half way through the main Story not looking forward to the ending either, just too much fun developing Henry's Story.

A real giant-killer

Everything is open world these days, but many game studios seem to believe that's a measure of quality. Most AAA open world games end up just being a waste of time, little more than generic quest after generic quest, but Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a debut game from a Czech studio that largely gets it right. Let's first address the elephant in the room: the game's mixed reception. Virtually all negative reviews (besides outdates ones that rightfully scored it poorly at launch purely due to bugs) are from people who just want the game to be something else entirely. They don't want a "realistic" game and don't see or appreciate the game's intelligent design in this regard. Just because a game isn't your type, that doesn't mean it's bad. Kingdom Come is an open world RPG in which all aspects of it - from the writing to the role-playing, quest design, combat mechanics, survival mechanics, all of it is intelligently designed to fit together very well. In fact, in order for its gameplay to achieve greater consistency, it needs MORE realism in a few areas, namely horse gameplay which is utterly generic and disappointing. This was one of the strongest RPGs released in the 2010s, in terms of role-playing and writing quality, since RPGs are on a sharp decline. This does not get recognized enough. For an open world game, it never wastes a minute as every single quest is unique and adds to the world and experience in its own unique way. Only a tiny handful of nonlinear games accomplish this, such as Pathologic 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. NLC 7, Planescape: Torment. The combat system is very well designed, with the one issue coming from its lock-on system which has its tradeoffs. Cycling between targets can be clunky, but it works brilliantly for duels. It is a first person combat system designed to mimic real combat as best as possible on keyboard and mouse, and it is mostly very good. Get this game if you want a ~100 hour engrossing RPG and aren't afraid of deep mechanics.

Medieval Simulator at its best

I rarely ever review a game, but this one deserves it. I saw that reviews on this game when it first released, and there were a lot of complaints about bugs and crashing, however, it seems that the devs on this game have got above and beyond to correct the issues. I have been playing now with only one crash and I am about 50% of the way through the main storyline. I have seen the complaints about the saving mechanic in the game, but I love it. I makes me think through each action I am going to take and I will run from combat if needed, survival is key. The progression in this game truly makes you feel that your character is actually improving and growing and there are so many different ways to handle a situation that it makes for a very immersive game. Anyone looking for a game with a great storyline, unique combat, and truly immersive and interactive world, this is a game for you.

Just incredible

I waited so long for a game like this. Such great atmosphere, charackter design is also pretty great. Everything feels really authentic, a musthave for all those medieval fans, especially if you had enough of all those fantasy elfdwarforc-standard stuff. More of this please, warhorse FTW! Oh, and those few bugs in the current version are not really worth mentioning. Like Skyrim still has more bugs than this now :D

good game, beyond my skill level

I played this for about 20 hours, but ultimately it was beyond my skill level. However, I can't really begrudge the game, because appreciated what it set out to accomplish. This is a really super ambitious first attempt by the developers, and I feel they nailed it in that regard. If you look at the big name open world RPG's out there on the market today, there really isn't a whole lot of competition. I liked the roleplay options, character building, story, and the lore that is based on historical events and culture, but ultimately, because of the combat difficulty, it's not for me, and that's ok. I firmly believe that not all games have to be for all players, and the more specialty games that cater to more niche audiences are a good thing. I definitely will give it a solid 4/5 because there was a lot to love. I recommend this game for more higher skilled players, and I want to add that the swordplay realism mods looked fantastic. I'll watch the rest on Youtube or Twitch or whatever, but I gave it an honest shot, and feel I got my money's worth for what I did experience.
