Game:

You're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Thrust into a raging civil war, you watch helplessly as invaders storm your village and slaughter your friends and family. Narrowly escaping the brutal attack, you grab your sword to fight back. Avenge the death of your parents and help repel the invading forces!

Story:

Bohemia – located in the heart of Europe, the region is rich in culture, silver, and sprawling castles. The death of its beloved ruler, Emperor Charles IV, has plunged the kingdom into dark times: war, corruption, and discord are tearing this jewel of the Holy Roman Empire apart. One of Charles' sons, Wenceslas, has inherited the crown. Unlike his father, Wenceslas is a naive, self-indulgent, unambitious monarch. His half-brother and King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox, senses weakness in Wenceslas. Feigning good will, Sigismund travels to Bohemia and kidnaps his half-brother. With no king on the throne, Sigismund is now free to plunder Bohemia and seize its riches.

In the midst of this chaos, you're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Your peaceful life is shattered when a mercenary raid, ordered by King Sigismund himself, burns your village to the ground. By bittersweet fortune, you are one of the few survivors of this massacre.

Without a home, family, or future you end up in the service of Lord Radzig Kobyla, who is forming a resistance against the invasion. Fate drags you into this bloody conflict and shoves you into a raging civil war, where you help fight for the future of Bohemia.
  • Massive realistic open world: Majestic castles, vast fields, all rendered in stunning high-end graphics.
  • Non-linear story: Solve quests in multiple ways, then face the consequences of your decisions.
  • Challenging combat: Distance, stealth, or melee. Choose your weapons and execute dozens of unique combos in battles that are as thrilling as they are merciless.
  • Character development: Improve your skills, earn new perks, and forge and upgrade your equipment.
  • Dynamic world: Your actions influence the reactions of the people around you. Fight, steal, seduce, threaten, persuade, or bribe. It’s all up to you.
  • Historical accuracy: Meet real historical characters and experience the genuine look and feel of medieval Bohemia.

My favourite game this year

Speaking frankly, I've waited some time after release because I believed that developers will enhance user experience. And now I'm having fun in this game - it has truly amazing atmosphere and great RPG-base. When I first see character menu I was shocked with sceuomorphic design, but now I realise that this is a part of the game and it gives a deeper immersion into the medieval atmosphere. This game really romanticise Middle Ages. However, it shows many terrible events in history. I hope developers will make a KCD 2. Brilliant - 10/10.

Really inovative

One of the best games of the last decade, if you are willling to learn some new game design ideas. Graphics are phenomenal and the quest system is truly inovative and complex, which may be why it took awhile to work out all the bugs. But, they did work out all the bugs. This just a very well written, well designed, and beutiful looking game. I hated the combat at first, until I learned how to use the trainer and from then on I think it is a fantastic system. At this price every gamer should give it a try.

Surprisingly disappointing

[SPOILERS] Summary: - crashes a lot - clunky mechanics - subpar story First, I tend to really enjoy RPGs and I don't usually give up easily. Elex, of all games, is among my all time favourites in spite of all it's shortcomings. I'm very much for a game being hard and the player having to work for things. This is the only way to appreciate where you are and it helps to achieve that weirdly soothing sense of immersion. I want to stress this is *not* the vibe I'm getting here. I played through the first couple hours, got to Rattay and did a couple quests. Not once did I really care about anything that was going on. In an RPG that means something is very, very wrong. Henry's parents and girlfriend get murdered. Without any setup that feels super cliche but ok. At least show me why *he* cares, because I surely don't. I've known these characters for all for 15 mins. Better yet just give me a rundown, there is really no need to unfold it in slow motion. What I guess was supposed to be a defining moment for Henry is no more than a supbar story you've heard dozens of times. Wish I cared but I really don't. Not impressed. Yawn. What follows doesn't make me hopeful for a great adventure either. Cut scenes, dialogs, characters, all seem insubstantial. Mechanics - I don't even know where to begin. Everything, from running (!) to fighting, to finding objectives, to maintaining gear in this game seems hard. And not in a fun way. I get it, it is supposed to be realistic, some people may even like it but to me, especially without a good motivating story, it feels just clunky and mostly pointlessy complicated. Lastly, the game crashed 3 times during the last hour. While doing the main story line. And you cannot freely save so each time you have to redo the last 15-30 mins. Why would I do this to myself? This is not a beta, so I'm going to call it, this game is broken. Period. Not even angry. Just surprised. First time *ever*, I'm going to see if I can get a refund.

Best RPG since TES III - Oblivion

Kingdom Come scratched the itch no other RPG could since old TES. Multiple viable character builds, customization, and challenge - without being hardcore. Stealing is fun, reminding me of sneaking through the Imperial City and breaking into staff shops. The visibility/defense trade off makes interesting choices; as does light armor dodging vs. plate armor slowness. There's proper bartering; gear repair that makes sense; alchemy stations with interactive equipment; sleep that's delayed enough to be engaging (KCD nights are dark, and full of terrors. You don't want to fall down a hill and break your legs at 2 a.m.). I recommend reducing the lategame carryweight. And tweaking the melee combat, if after 20 hours you still can't beat a beggar in a fistfight (via Nexus mods). It's a tough game at the start, but all the more rewarding once you (and Henry) learn. I've had no noticeable bugs, either I was lucky, or Warhorse have patched them. A must-buy for anyone with a passing interest in RPGs.

Slow, buggy, and terrible combat system

The graphics and storytelling are good, but the movement, the interactions and the fight are absolutely terrible. The combat system is based on mouse movement like mordhau or chivalry, but the movements are stupidely incontrolable, the rythm is slow and you don't get if you are actually damaging anyone and feel like you are fighting with a needle. Why does the combat auto locks on enemies? Why do the hands need to move when picking up objects? Why the movement feels so off? Why when you try to get a horse a fricking diegetic UI shows up? That's great when you flee soldiers ! The game misses so much and should have a morhdau like sword gameplay, which is easy for a solo game. I'm extremely disappointed.
