Game:

You're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Thrust into a raging civil war, you watch helplessly as invaders storm your village and slaughter your friends and family. Narrowly escaping the brutal attack, you grab your sword to fight back. Avenge the death of your parents and help repel the invading forces!

Story:

Bohemia – located in the heart of Europe, the region is rich in culture, silver, and sprawling castles. The death of its beloved ruler, Emperor Charles IV, has plunged the kingdom into dark times: war, corruption, and discord are tearing this jewel of the Holy Roman Empire apart. One of Charles' sons, Wenceslas, has inherited the crown. Unlike his father, Wenceslas is a naive, self-indulgent, unambitious monarch. His half-brother and King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox, senses weakness in Wenceslas. Feigning good will, Sigismund travels to Bohemia and kidnaps his half-brother. With no king on the throne, Sigismund is now free to plunder Bohemia and seize its riches.

In the midst of this chaos, you're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Your peaceful life is shattered when a mercenary raid, ordered by King Sigismund himself, burns your village to the ground. By bittersweet fortune, you are one of the few survivors of this massacre.

Without a home, family, or future you end up in the service of Lord Radzig Kobyla, who is forming a resistance against the invasion. Fate drags you into this bloody conflict and shoves you into a raging civil war, where you help fight for the future of Bohemia.
  • Massive realistic open world: Majestic castles, vast fields, all rendered in stunning high-end graphics.
  • Non-linear story: Solve quests in multiple ways, then face the consequences of your decisions.
  • Challenging combat: Distance, stealth, or melee. Choose your weapons and execute dozens of unique combos in battles that are as thrilling as they are merciless.
  • Character development: Improve your skills, earn new perks, and forge and upgrade your equipment.
  • Dynamic world: Your actions influence the reactions of the people around you. Fight, steal, seduce, threaten, persuade, or bribe. It’s all up to you.
  • Historical accuracy: Meet real historical characters and experience the genuine look and feel of medieval Bohemia.

A game worth playing

Awesome game! I started playing after a patch 1.41. Never encoutered any bugs. Very hard and detailed, even a smal of your misstep could bring you alot of troble... )) (since I can't fight properly in open, I trained assasin's skills - people didn't like it, of course...) Territory is huge! If you unwilling to use fast travel, horse is the must. Talking to random people too is not useless... Really deep and interesting game.

Great game in last version without bugs.

In the latest versions without a bug, a great experience from the Middle Ages. Great story and gameplay. Do you like to just walk through the woods and collect herbs? Or hunt the hare? Fight with a sword, a hammer, a axe or a bow ... Or you can break the bandits out of the camp at night and, as a bonusy poison they food and drink before.

A special gem with jagged edges

When I first started playing this game, it enraged me. I was used to playing games where, even on harder difficulties, I was a walking disaster area, capable of destroying huge numbers of enemies, as long as I didn't make a major mistake. This is not that kind of game. This is the kind of game where even at your most powerful, if you see three or four decently armored guys running toward you, if you want to survive, your reaction should not be "CHARGE!" I made the mistake of not understanding that and was getting killed by things I thought I should be able to beat. This was my mistake, trying to make the game bend to me, rather than adapting to the intended style. This is a game that lives and dies on its attempt to be realistic in a variety of ways. The combat is non-intuitive, and at least for me, and different from other games I'd played. Eventually you learn all the tricks and become a pretty nasty fighter, but you absolutely start out dying from a stiff breeze. Huge attempts were made to be realistic in other ways, basing much of the game on real historical events and people, and just generally putting in a huge amount of effort into making the buildings, clothing, etc. as period accurate. While this doesn't guarantee a good game, I personally feel they nailed the atmosphere, giving it a unique and quite enjoyable feeling. And to address it's biggest problem, it is a bit buggy. I got into the game late, after the developers had a chance to patch some things, so I didn't run into any game-breaking bugs. I did hit some annoying ones, but nothing that even made me reload my game. I wouldn't call it a real issue now. tldr; this game can be frustratingly difficult, a bit buggy, and sometimes a little too realistic for its own good, but I enjoyed the hell out of it, and would heartily recommend it to just about anyone who's got time to sink into it.

Superb game

Best RPG I've played in years. Like so many RPGs the first hour or so (where they set the scene) is the least interesting aspect of the game, but it's worth sticking with. Once the game opens up into its open world it becomes one of the great sandboxes to play in. Combat looks clunky at first, but this changes when you start training and understand how it works in more depth.

Best and most unique RPG in a while

At this point, I've not encountered a single bug in my 100+ hours of play. While the combat is a bit odd, its quite rewarding to make Henry proficient in and eventually parry and riposte fools like nothing. To get to that point though, you'll have to train up a fair bit. The game stradles the line between making things "realistic" in a game, and I think they make it well enough that I was engaged and wanting to learn the moment a new mechanic popped up. Archery is super fun to get better at and eventually learn to get some fantastic shots (There's no aimer, you have to learn to place your shots from your hand). The game struggles with many enemies on screen, however. Some people have contention with the saving system...but its really not that hard to get. You can save your game by sleeping....there are many places in which you can sleep for free or cheap. You can also save using a potion called "Saviour Schnapps". They can be purchased, looted, or even brewed yourself. You can't save scum like crazy, but if you have a modicum of brain power you can sleep to save for free before embarking on a part of a quest or bandit encampment. Story and characters are all great, environments are fantastic and true to life, and getting Henry from a shlub to a chad is incredibly rewarding. Definitely give the game a shot if you're curious.
