Kenshi is an open world, squad based sandbox RPG set in a brutal sword-punk wasteland. Gameplay is open-ended rather than a linear story, so you can play as a settler, a trader, a thief, a rebel, a warlord, an adventurer, a farmer, a slave... or just food for the cannibals.

But first things first, you need to survive. Train your men up from puny victims to master warriors, carry your wounded squad mates to safety and get them all home alive. You are not the chosen one, you’re not great and powerful, you don’t have more ‘hitpoints’ than everyone else and you are not special. Unless you work for it.
Customise a solo character or a whole squad and train them from puny victims to master warriors
Survive in an unrelenting world of slavers, cannibals, wild beasts and famine. Nowhere is safe.
Build your own fortress, research technologies, craft your own gear and wage war with other factions
Explore and scavenge the uncharted lands of one of the largest single player open world maps to date
Absolutely no level-scaling. The world does not level up along with you and the game won't hold your hand.

A very large potential, but the game is advancing at a snails pace. I purchased this years ago and will continue to wait until it is a mostly finished game before I really embark on it. The 20 hours or so I played years ago were not a very happy 20 hours. Save your money and wait. If it ever nears completion, it'll be a good buy, but I'd say odds are it won't.
If you like open-ended gameplay. You like to make up your own stories in the world, and you don't like linear hand helding then you should give to that game a try.
Things I like:
- it's squat based.
- character can be sientist, fighter, weapon/ armor smith, simple worker, assasin, thief or all of it combined and even more.
- health system ( every limp/ body part has it's own health bar)
- experience gain system (like in elder scroll)
- it's open ended gameplay, letting me chose how I want to play the game.
- easy modding
What I don't like:
- bugs
I bought that game back in 2012, through their website. First you could just run around the desert can kill or get kill, and trade goods. That basic was very fun, and over the years new features, graphics have been added.
It's like Mad Max meets Star Wars
Prop the most hours I have spend on any video game, and it is not complite yet. :D
It has modding possibilities with an extra tool that is built in to the game. You can change all kind of stats, if there is need for that, or even create your own game content.
Even thought there is bugs, the gameplay wins me over with the gameplay and the freedom it gives. Kenshi is in my top 3 next to Dark Souls 1 and Mass Effect 1.
Looking forward for the full realise.
I didn't even know Kenshi was on GOG, I bought it on Desura, back in 2012, then got a Steam Key for its early access.
The game is an amazing sandbox, squad management RPG, with no story, set in an alien world (is not Earth) with a setting that I'd define a post-apolcaliptic samurai society.
Even in its very earl version, when all there was a huge desert with some settlements and random bandits it was a pleasure to play, but over the past few years it has changed a lot, in the good direction.
The game has an amazing style, very good music (thou I wish there was more) and good mechanics, you can do pretty much whatever you prefer, being a farmer, a thief, an adventurer, a miner, a legendary swordsman... or you can do all of it, with your squads (as you can have more than one).
Only issue? Well it has been in development for the past 6 years, apparently it's getting close to release, but you never know.
If you love Fallout 2, Wasteland, modded Jagged Alliance 2, old Eve Online, huge open breathing world - this is the game.
Devs are commited and active.
Game is unique in genre and well thought through. You can see devs spent a lot of time polishing it.
This is not RTS similar to SpellForce2, its more like Fallout2 with RTS, RPG and open world.
AI works well, much better then SpellForce2, Stellaris or similar RTS.
At this moment dialogs are minimalistic. Hopefully devs would add more backstory into game.
Combat is does not have strategic depth as in Jagged Alliance or XCom. Your options are to hold the line, taunt, extra block (without attacking) and positioning your chars. There is a fine balance between overpowering player and combat options given to player. But seeing that devs committed and this is a hot topic of discussion, hopefully in future devs would add more depth into it.
As it stands now Kenshi already will become one of those games we remember and love.
