AHHHHHHHHH....i'm so frigging excited....I used to play this game years ago in the middle of the night....i was so scared...but sooooo hoooked....i DO NOT play games...this is the best....has the fall 2016 version come out????????
I loved the original Journeyman series and GOG did a great job making the game work on modern systems. There have been some crashes. Make sure to save the game frequently. There is no auto save. Aside from that however it works very well.
The story behind the game is a gripping mixtur of sci-fi and history. Travel back in time to find evidence proving the innocence of your future self. Two of these times are in our own past and I look forward to visiting the ruins of château gaillard, one of the time zones you visit in the game, in the real world soon.
The third time zone is in a fictional future where you find Arthur, the funny and helpful AI. I strongly suggest you get to Arthur first thing after checking out your start location. I for one really like his comments and the help button really gets you unstuck every now and then.
One of the game's blessings is that you can travel between time zones as you please. You actually have to in order to make progress. Sadly every time you make a time jump you'll reset your position. So try to cut down on jumps in order to avoid frustration.
Read the information attached to your inventory items. It contains valuable clues on how to use some items. Especially towards the end some quick actions are required and you'll have to know which items may safe your life.
Unlike other adventures and part three of the series there is little to no interaction with people in the time zone. So no dialog. That does add a bit of a sterile feel to it. Yet there are some vital bits of information you need to keep in mind when learning about people in your ... erm "present". Just know who you're working with. It may be important later on ;)
Despite a few shortcomings most of which are just based on the age of the game it's very enjoyable. I'm happy to rate it with 5 stars and highly recommend it to anyone enjoying older adventure games.
I had a good time playing through this one with a friend back when it came out. It's got a very cool time-travel mechanic that sets up some pretty interesting puzzles. There's also some good humor in the game, but I found it got a little cheesy at times. The game does also suffer from the age-old adventure game problem of having some rather illogical and annoying puzzles in a few places.
Overall, it's a good game but I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the first game in the series. I will admit that there are a few bad design decisions in the first game but for the most part I liked the plot and puzzles in the first one better than this. But this will still be a good time for any fans of adventure games, especially at the GOG price. Definitely recommended.
Buried In Time is going to seem rough around the edges by today's standards, but it is a uniquely engaging point and click adventure game. I'm trying not to let nostalgia make me gush. This is the best game in the Journeyman Project series and a good time for anybody who likes the sort of tough, logic-based puzzles that games have abandoned these days. Also worth mentioning: Your AI sidekick Arthur, voiced by a comedian, is a real treat to have along, and also provides some historical context.
The Good:
Beautiful graphics, a great story, unconventional puzzles that are challenging and fun, the GREATEST sidekick in any game I've ever played, a fabulous sci-fi adventure which is also educational!
The Bad:
It eventually ends.
The Ugly:
Some really horrid acting by the guy who plays the main character. I was very happy when they replaced him in JP3. Still, he's only in a few short scenes, and Arthur (the sidekick I mentioned) more than makes up for him. Just grit your teeth and get through those tough bits.
I'm going to play through this game again as soon as my Cheesegirl gets here.
