Jade empire

The setting is rather cool, a ancient chinese empire inspired by martial arts films. There are only 2 small villages and the imperial city as main locations in the game. The grand finale takes place in a ancient crypt. Rather short. The combat is real time and has next to no tactical options beside blocking and power attacks. Most fights can be solved by randomly smashing the attack buttons. The story telling is biowarian. 5 main story missions you can choose from freely and then being thrown into the grande finale. The game misses the tactical battles of baldurs gate, the exploration, the content, the catfighting between team members, the story is boring and uninteresting. Jade empire and Knights of the old republic were the begin of the biowarian decline for me. No good rpgs anymore but light action games for the console market to maximize profit and market share. Nethertheless JE is a quite fun game.

A solid RPG that stands the test of time

In an era where games presented little to nothing in the way of morality, Jade Empire stands out as having a fantastic morality scale where you can be less than "good" while still being the "good guy". The leveling is fantastic, allowing you to customize your character's abilities as you increase in power, tailoring to your playstyle. If you haven't already, BUY THIS GAME. Bonus: Surprise Nathan Fillion.

Drunken style for life!

Not the best of its genre, but still a good game with a very nice Asian setting and music. Dialogues could be more roleplay-ish though.

A jewel of jade

Shame on me to never played Jade Empire before 2019 ! I am a fan of Bioware's RPG, but I found KOTOR just "ok". Jade Empire has the same interface, but I find the asian context more attractive (exotic). As always, you have companions and their backgrouds (romances options of course), and you play a special character, with an important task and a strange past and destiny. If you find the plot not so special at first, the interactions with NPC's will awake your curiosity. Very inspirated by the ancien empire of China, there is notions about other asian's nations (some people will said "cliches", but without such mixes there will alaways be the same stories in our games, books and movies... boring). The gameplay is different to KOTOR too, and not my favorite, but there is some ideas. And the game's environnment is pretty and immersive. I play in french version and it's funny to hear voices present in other Bioware's games too (and Jim Carrey french voice for one of our companions XD) The bad point for me concerns the "mini-games". Not necessary but frustrating : it's a vertical shoot-em-up, and I found those missions difficult. Well, I don't know if flying missions of KOTOR was better or worse, but I think there are all useless in such games.
