Maybe it is unfair to rate a game 1 star based on less than 1 hour of gameplay. I didnt even finish the first quest. I walked around in the forest with my priest, whacking bats until my staff broke, I'd drunk 4-5 healing pots and found about the same plus some pieces of armor and scrolls i couldnt read inspite of sinking all my skillpoints into identify. I had a scroll that was identified, but I couldnt figure out what to do with it, though the game did inform me that I had the required skill for it. I bought this game because it "looked" like baldurs gate, but after killing about 30 bats on the first quest I started thinking that world of warcraft had less tedious starting quests... so I quit the game and uninstalled. I realised at this point that I've become a grumpy old fart with not enough patience for the old school painful grinding. They say somewhere in this game is a lot of beautiful dialogue as a reward for my patient bat grinding, but too bad. Tonight I'm reading a book...

There is Old-School done right and then there is Old-school done wrong. This falls in the latter category. The User Interface seems to have no scaling at all, and if you run it in a resolution pretty normal today you will require a microscope to see anything on the character sheet and similar screens. They seem simply have forgotten to add any scaling to it. The game incorporates an annoying stamina system to slow down the already sluggish gameplay even more. There simply are other games in this category that does these things better.

I was enjoying this game on easy setting, but there was a bug that made it impossible for me to finish a quest necessary to advance the plot. So this made me feel unhappy about the game. If you do play, please play on easy setting. That way the game is fun and not frustrating. I enjoyed reading the extensive dialogue and hunting down heretics. It was fun to get promoted within the Inquisition. The story was very interesting, centering on heretics trying to bring about the end of the world and the main character is the only one who can stop them. One of the most annoying bugs was that the character would freeze sometimes for 3 or 4 seconds. It doesn't sound like much, but the enemies can do a lot of damage if they catch up to you and hit you a bunch in that time. This game was worth the $4 I paid for it on sale, but would not recommend it at full price due to the bugs.

The game has probably one of the most mature and gripping storylines up there with baldurs gate and many classic rpgs. However the gameplay is extremely tedious with a lot of farming of monsters due to the overpowered nature of a lot of the enemies. Also the chests and doors need to be attacked (forced open) which takes ages due to the huge amount of health. The atmosphere is perfect however the combat is almost a chore. Worth a look but be warned you need to put a lot of effort in this game to make it worthwhile.

This game is just amazing and one of the most unique games I've ever played. There is a ton of dialog in the game and at first you might think it's a bit boring, but if you really dive into the lore and the world around you you will start to see how amazing the game really is. The dialog pulls you in and soon you are uncovering clues to mysteries in a grim atmosphere of demons and sacrificial rituals. It really is almost too good to be true because you are constantly uncovering these clues and the game just keeps getting deeper and deeper and the story keeps sucking you in until the outside world is a thing of the past. The game is challenging but if you find the right path to take it's not that bad. Be prepared to save a lot and die a lot as well but it's still very manageable. The best part of this game is the story and investigation that is going on. You will meet people with hidden secrets, ulterior motives, liars, demons incarnate and so much more. Definitely worth the asking price for this amazing gem. Play it and be immersed in this crazy world of unbelievable atmosphere. This game is a true work of art. 5/5
