Third movie - three stars
This one didn't age well to be honest :) It's clunky, command "WHAT IS" is actually your best friend, you can screw yourself over pretty simply and regret it later on in the game even simpler. It's was still a great game in its time... just not nowadays anymore, no. Still if you hate yourself and love games from Sierra - you will love this one too :)

Some parts good, some just terrible
I really *wanted* this game to be good, but as a whole it just isn't. Not by today's standards anyway, and somehow I have a hard time believing it was good by its time's standards. The extremely shortened plot only works if you know the movie (which I guess is an acceptable prerequisite); the puzzles are decent, if not too easy, but there should be more of them; the dialogues range from OK to entertaining; but what really made me mad were the annoying maze & arcade boxing interludes. They are just frustratingly bad because they feel misplaced, the controls are terrible, and there's almost no way you're not going to rely on loading savegames 100 times until you make it. Clearly, noone could have considered these fistfights entertaining? In fact I gave up and cheated; if you need it, here's how: In ScummVM, at the beginning of a fight, just press CTRL+D to open the debug console, then type "scumm_vars[212] 32000" and press Enter, and you'll have insane punch power - one hit and you win.

Not all games age well or were any good.
Somehow I remembered this as a pretty decent game back when I was a teenager, but after replaying The Last Crusade shortly after it was re-released on GOG I had to reevaluate my opinion. Nostalgia can be a terrible thing at times. I really can't figure out why anyone would praise this game, these days. It's a badly abridged version of the movie it's based on, often skipping big chunks of story that would provide some coherence to the actual plot. People not familiar with the film will simply end up scratching their heads. Even as a big fan of the original trilogy I have a hard time seeing past that. Not only that, but half the game feels like it's unnecessary padding for game length, especially the latter part as the fisticuffs drastically increases in frequency; good luck with those repeated checkpoints after the zeppelin flight. Sure, you can bypass some of these, but only if you happened to have the item you didn't know you needed or happened to find. This just ends up in a lot of trial and error and ultimately frustration. If you want a well-designed Indiana Jones point-and-click adventure you're much better off with The Fate of Atlantis, which is a far superior game.

An OK tie-in game to my favorite Indy
I like adventure games and Indiana Jones, but I was a bit disappointed with this one. Positive: - generally nice pixelart (Indy looks like a walking brick tough) - nice references to other LucasArts properties and behind the scenes facts - some good puzzles - multiple ways to solve some puzzles and multiple endings - expanding on locations from the movie - some funny jokes - Grail Diary pdf - I didn't encounter any major problems on Win 8.1 Negative: - few sound effects - no music at some places, and even when there is music it's not always a good rendition of the iconic John Williams score - Pretty bad fist-fighting mini-game. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. And your health doesn't regenarate. - a lot of jokes and situations that don't feel like Indy at all, and take away from the moments. - frustrating puzzles, where you have to use previous information, which wasn't telegraphed at the moment, when you would have had to pay attention. There are semi random guessing puzzles too. - The castle as a whole. A top-down maze full of guards, where you have to do a lot of tedious tasks to avoid them, or fight them in the mini-game. - "WHAT IS" button instead of hover over hotspots -You can get a game over. It's funny the first few times, but it becomes more and more annoying. In the original version you couldn't save in the temple. Thankfully, ScummVM lets you save anywhere. Who is laughing now Ron? Overall, if you want to play something that “makes you feel like Indiana Jones”, this is not the best choice. As an adventure game it shows its age with frustrating design decisions and dated technology. Some of that can be blamed on the rushed development of the game tough. Has some fun moments, but it can be really hard to finish. I don’t think I have ever used a walkthrough as many times as with this title. It’s not really a bad game, but I don’t think it’s a good one either.
