I used to own this on C.D. untill my parents sold it, never did forgive them for that. It's truly a unique game with the camera angles and dialog. The story will suck you in almost instantly. It's a steal for five dollars, I've been looking everywhere for it and it's so rare that I found it on amazon for seventy dollars! H*** NO!! The graphics for the game itself where flawless and top-notch for it's time. The graphics for the cut scenes where ahead of their time and awed me and they still do. It's what every gamer could want, perfect voice acting, above average graphics (for it's time,) instant story that makes you play when you've had enough and choices.
Tldr: Go for it if you like exploring unique gaming endeavors of their era, but only if you can stomach dated controls.
"The most ambitious PlayStation game yet", says a praising quote on the back of the Playstaition 2-cd pack cover of In Cold Blood. And yes, it was ambitious in being a creative and original twist on singleplayer story based gaming. The mix of stealth, adventure, and tank-controls resident evil style action - and a quite succesful one - still remains a pretty unique gaming experience; parallels are hard to find up to present day.
About the gameplay, I will only say that you have to try it for yourself and see. The controls are really dated and if that's something you can't get past, this game will probably be left in your library unfinished; somewhere around first or second mission. If you can have a little patience, or if you actually remember the gaming experience of Resident Evil 1-3 as "having fun", you'll get used to it. Anyway, you will find out that the game is built around the controls pretty well and doesn't want you to do much beyond their possibilities.
As for the story, setting, atmosphere, etc., this is a classic cold war spy thriller, very well executed. While the story and the setting are rather gloomy, revolving around events in a small totalitarian country, the encounters are filled with a lot of humor and the dialogues are really very well written. The mixture of a serious spy novel with a absurd funny situations is not as bizarre as in Metal Gear Solid, the humor is more subtle, but nevertheless funny and sometimes very smart. The atmosphere of a dreary soviet-like country is mixed together with cool scifi stuff makes you want explore every little room, makes you want to progress unraveling the mystery and find out what you can about this particular fictional crisis. The visuals, while dated, do not fail at all to drive this point home. That's mostly thanks to the 2-d prerendered backgrounds which haven't lost it charm.
I thought I would enjoy this game, and I definitely tried to! Sadly, it has some major flaws that are hard to overlook. Mainly the terrible controls and the dated 3d graphics and animations. Sure, it's not exactly a new game, but still, it's hard to think that Quake III and Deus Ex were both released before this. Revolution Software has made several awesome games - this isn't one of them. It does, however, have some qualities. The mix of genres is pretty cool, the atmosphere is nice and the voice acting good. You might find some value in this title if you're able to overlook its flaws, unfortunately, I couldn't.
This game is one of the good ones indeed.Cuz your a Spy!And theres Robot with lasers
and theres evil doctor. The game reminds of Broken Sword by the speaking and nice graphics.
The puzzles are easy but not to easy you get them after a few minutes if you dont get it at first
Every who looked at this game and thought its interesting should give it a try!!!
I first played this as a demo when I was a kid. Picked it up on GoG and it's pretty much as I remember it, though a little dated now.
The demo was the "Land Train" level, which is probably one of the coolest levels in the game. Set on board an enormous behemoth of a vehicle, think a train-length monster truck, you have to sneak through the hallways and climb around on the roof. Definitely a neat idea for a level and it's nice to see a game doing something different.
The gameplay in general mixes stealth, action and adventure gameplay mechanics. Unfortunately, while each aspect is solid and reliable, none of the three truly excels above any specialised game. The combat is a passable case of just shooting things with a pistol, the stealth consists of punching guys in the back of the head and pressing "hack" on a wristwatch a few times and the adventure gameplay consists of talking to people for a few sentences and solving some simple puzzles.
The two main irritants lie with the adventure gameplay aspect. Not only are the conversations pretty shallow (perhaps the only cool feature is you can pull a gun on some people to threaten them) but there is some "adventure game logic" going on too, with slightly weird puzzles.
Then there are some rather annoying instances throughout the levels of what feels like deliberate length-padding, with silly backtracking back and forth between rooms to perform simple tasks.
Sometimes the two are combined. One level asks you to find a ladder to a control room. The ladder to this vital room is...in a prison cell? Why the heck would you put a vital entrance to a vehicle's control centre in the middle of a prisoner's cell? It's literally the last place that makes sense o_0
This same puzzle requires that you push a button on a computer to unlock the cell, go into the cell, try to climb a ladder, go back to the computer to open the ladder and THEN climb the ladder. Needless busywork.
Finally, pre-rendered backgrounds look nice, RE-like.
