As the Cold War drew to a close, the world believed that peace would reign across the globe. It seemed that a new age had dawned, an age of lasting unity between nations, but this was not the case. Instead the fight for global supremacy had only been forced underground into the battlefield of covert ops and evil acts of terror.
Into this arena sprung a new force. Masked behind the guises of subterfuge, plausible deniability and information management, the Institute for Geotactical Intelligence raised the sword against those who would subjugate the world.
Though the malignancy of terrorism has broken our world on occasion, the global crucible has not yet boiled over into World War III. For that thank the one-man army David Jones and the forever-unsung heroes of IGI.

Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
Runs flawlessly on Win7.
Might be a great game if you liked it before, but it has very bad and frustrating controls and is extremely difficult, with no quicksave.
You're better of buying Deus Ex or any other FPS.
Very Hard but pretty good game! But it's not for a Call of Duty fan - this title require tactics, not only shooting to everything what can move. Yes, it's not perfect but overall - must have!
I tried so hard to like this game and was able to get past the first two or three missions but when I got stuck where they introduced armor (a BMP if I recall), it was all over for me. Not sure if it's a bug and I was suppose to spawn somewhere else or if I should already have AT gear but after a dozen attempts on this section without a sliver of hope, I gave up.
Graphics and concept are okay, and the less challenging sections are alright. I think the game might even be enjoyable with cheats like invincibility or something (not sure if they even exist), but the game play is just totally unbalanced and broken IMHO.
Hey, at least it installed and ran fine, sssooo, there's that :D
I can not recommend this game to anyone at all just based on playability as it is seriously terrible and I honestly really wanted this game to work for me as I loved the first I.G.I but this doesn't even come close to anything that had, this game is NO FUN at all, I just couldn't push on after second mission the first mission was painful as it was, but I tried to give it an honest go and I just felt so non fulfilled, great idea poorly executed and you go away with a real sense of a waste of time.
I.G.I. 2 sounds like a good game to me: Being a special military agent with high tech gadgets, sneaking into enemy bases with realistic modern weapons. Unfortunately the developers were able to destroy everything they tried to do.
There is a story and it is as stupid and boring as it comes. Once again in the end you fight a crazy general that wants to launch a nuclear warhead, doesn’t this sound familiar? For a game that pretends of being realistic no story at all but just giving you military type missions would had been much better I think.
The stealth elements are as crappy as they come. The manual even lies to you that you should consider different ways into a base. But most of the time there is only ONE way to get into the base and only ONE way to finish the mission, always forcing you to shoot yourself through the enemy soldiers instead of sneaking past them. It is impossible anyway. The enemies are placed in a way in which you are forced to fight. This wouldn’t be that bad if they would not have godlike accuracy and can even shoot you from a mile away with a pistol. But even this wouldn’t be that worse if you would not be restricted to a few saves during a mission. But in all other aspects the AI is completely retarded making them easy to kill, especially if they have to go through a door.
The outside graphics are good looking, even today, but the inside of buildings is as boring as they come. The models are some of the ugliest I have ever seen and they all walk like puppets on a string, making this game really laughable. Same goes for the cheap 90s style blood effects and the fact that you cannot carry dead bodies away, while you were already able to do this in Thief at the end of 1998! But you are supposed to shoot your way through anyway so even this doesn’t really matter.
What matters is that there are much better games out there that combine shooter and stealth elements. Avoid this game at all cost because this is really not worth your time and money.
