Description
As the Cold War drew to a close, the world believed that peace would reign across the globe. It seemed that a new age had dawned, an age of lasting unity between nations, but this was not the case. Instead the fight for global supremacy had only been forced underground into the battlefield of covert ops and evil acts of terror.

Into this arena sprung a new force. Masked behind the guises of subterfuge, plausible deniability and information management, the Institute for Geotactical Intelligence raised the sword against those who would subjugate the world. Though the malignancy of terrorism has broken our world on occasion, the global crucible has not yet boiled over into World War III. For that thank the one-man army David Jones and the forever-unsung heroes of IGI.

Wasn't a good game...

...and being an old game hasn't made it any better. This game features all the fatal flaws of a failed shooter. Horrible AI that while being hopelessly retarded is also godly accurate with any gun at any distance. Stealth mechanics that just don't work and force you to resort to save/reload trial and error to complete missions, which while frustrating wouldn't be all that terrible if you were not limited to a set number of saves per mission. Maybe if the game was interesting otherwise, be it through the plot or level design or game play mechanics, it might be redeemed despite the above flaws - but it's not. The plot is a confusing mess, the levels while large are ugly and boring and the missions themselves start to feel like a repetitive chore before you're even on your second mission. Don't get me wrong, this isn't really a bad game - it's just not a good one. It's completely forgettable and for all the things it does right, there are plenty of games that do it better. This was true when IGI2 was released, and it's even more true today. Open world and freedom? Play Operation Flashpoint. Tactical fights? Play Ghost Recon. Stealth? Splinter Cell.

Loved it

If you're not into the run in and kill everthing type of game, IGI 2 will allow a more sedate style of gameplay. With death coming very quickly it always reminds you that you can be hurt unlike some games today which concentrate on action at the expense of fear. Fear of being found, fear of being killed and fear of having to start a mission yet again. Whilst it is not perfect there is fun to be had and lots of it.

THIS IS NOT a fire person shooter!

This game is about stealth.. It's really sad when people think this game is like MW3.. It's not about a front assault on killing 100000 people. It's about doing missions that are HARD. This game has no save points in the mission. So you either did it right all the way through or you did it OVER! Great series and great game

Disappointing sequel to a fun game

The first IGI was incredibly wide open for it's time--the environments were huge and there were generally multiple ways to accomplish each of your tasks. The shooter part was only decent and the enemy AI was questionable, but it was really fun. Unfortunately, the second game frequently leaves behind the wide-open areas (several sections take places in linear caves) and often has only one way to finish a task. It carried over all the weakness of the original, but left behind most of the strengths.

Flawed Gem

I loved this game back when it came out. Like its predecessor, Project I.G.I., I.G.I. 2 has you infiltrate large, open areas with limited but advanced weaponry and gear in order to accomplish missions of sabotage with the occasional evasion thrown in. It still has some of the same flaws as the first game, such as the dumb AI (a common occurrence in this genre) and deadeye enemies, but its biggest flaw is the newly introduced time limit in some of the missions. Planning your stealthy infiltration just doesn't work well with time constraints. Apart from that, I found I.G.I. 2 to be a good tactical shooter with survival elements.
