Homeworld, one of the best games ever

the good: its homeworld. you will care about your ships. when you see a ship blows apart, you know you failed them. the best music in all of video game history. they didnt need to say anything, you saw it and felt their despair. "The subject did not survive interrogation" the bad: the reactive difficulty in the remaster is VERY broken. you will not beat this game without modding that. by the way heres a mod for that. https://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/t/mod-adjust-campaigns-scaling-difficulty-in-menu/1540289 no steam workshop, my only regret.

No Way! find the Original Games

'The original games were fantastic, the remastered leave a lot to be desired. Great visual improvements, incredibly poor balance and gameplay changes, really blows my mind this made it through any QA process before being released. AVOID the remastered and just play the originals.'

Great stuff

My dad had an original copy in the 2000s that came with manuals and stuff. The game was beautiful, and the manual was the first non-kid fiction I read. I loved it, got into sci-fi, and now work in aerospace. If there's some life-changing piece of media for me that'd be Homeworld. The game is decent. The campaign is still fun and challenging today. Music, story and delivery are fantastic. Too bad they went into the whack direction for HW2, and I can't imagine what they'd write for HW3. You just can't have good things any more can you

The Best Space RTS Game For 20+ Years

This is the third time I've bought Homeworld 1&2. The First time was on CD-ROMs, the second was Steam, and now from GOG. The new graphics are excellent. The music is still amazing. I've played dozens of realtime space strategy games, from Sins of a Solar Empire to Star Trek: Armada and many others. While all of them have their positives, Homeworld is the only game I return to and replay every few years. Its plot is amazing, told in stark black and white cutscenes that are full of depth, and some of the most emotional gameplay I've ever experienced. I'm not ashamed to admit my eyes watered at the line 'not even beacons' from the first game. I very highly recommend Homeworld for gamers who like realtime strategy.

*FUN*damentally broken, but...

First of all, before I start my review, I wanted to say that I got this on a sale -- impacting my rating. Also, I haven't played the original. I just finished both parts for the first time and I have to say that both parts are fundamentally broken. Finishing the last mission from the second game just left me... tired and sad. And its a great representation of the second game as a whole; most of the time pausing and micromanaging (everything from a fighter squadron to a dreadnought because if you let them alone, for a second, they will destroy all of your hard work leading to that point), waiting to finish the mission just to see the next part of the story. Everything computer controlled is just plain stupid, making the game fairly easy because it boils down to figuring out what counters what and concentrating fire on the toughest enemy ship. The game mostly tries to hide it's stupid AI with cheating and overwhelming situations. And it might succeed if the scripted situations are not broken, making the game just frustrating. The first one is broken in other ways; most notably with broken formations (making smaller ships useless) and similarly broken scripted situations (leaving enemy just floating in space, etc.), but rewords micromanagement with salvage mechanic and using original maps (the second game reuses some modified maps/missions, similar to the first game), making it more fun and original. On to the positive: the game is just beautiful, the soundtrack is fantastic, the story is great, cut scenes are wonderful. Ship models are excellent and I can see how they might have impacted other games, movies and series. They just feel so real. Voice acting is okay, but wouldn't mind more variety. Fun and rewarding when working as intended, a frustrating grind when not. Highly recommended when on a sale to all and any sci-fi fans out there.
