I've had my eyes on the series for awhile... the idea of a massive colony ship floating through space in the search for their past and future, with entire convys of ship floating around it as they venture into the void.....
It delivered every bit of the mystique and did so in a way I feel able to understand. They just don't make games like this anymore.... least, not well.
Homeworld Remastered Collection is, for me, the best space war sim of the classic era brought back to life. From the opening cutscenes of the campaign to the tense, tactical fleet engagements, the game balances story and gameplay beautifully. I don’t usually spend much time on campaigns, but this one is dramatic enough to keep me invested throughout.
Where the game really earns replay value is Skirmish mode. The variety of maps and the way the AI scales its tactics make each match feel fresh — whether I’m experimenting with different fleet compositions or trying to outmaneuver a stubborn opponent.
The remaster does a fantastic job improving the original: the updated graphics make the ships and battles look spectacular without losing the aesthetic that made the originals memorable, and the sound effects and score add weight to every confrontation. For someone who grew up playing RTSes in the ’90s, seeing Homeworld get this treatment is a genuine treat. If you enjoy strategic fleet combat, memorable set-pieces, and a strong blend of story and skirmish replayability, don’t miss this one.
You will marvel at the new fancy graphics, you will gawk at the imaginitve and well designed spaceships, you will cry a bit when things go wrong for the characters in the story, and you will bear your teeth with things go horribly wrong. And if you don't keep your head on a swivel and get a bit of luck, this game will grind you up untill you get on its level... and you will have fun doing it. The insane part is this game is only a year and a half older than me, and all it needs is a fresh coat of paint with some fine tuning for it to hold up.
