Very pretty, but overly hard for the sake of being so to the point it feel like it is wasting your time.
I want to like Silk Song I really do, I loved Hollow Knight, but the game is too damned hard and I have better thing to do with my time.
I've played for about 4 hours so far and it's pretty much more of the original. I am just a little bit disappointed that they still stuck to their annoying map system from the first one and the difficulty seems to be much higher. I have yet to see if I can upgrade my Nail, but most bosses I've fought so far take far too many hits to kill.
The game looks good. The music is nice. There are nice abilities.
That being said, I am into Act 2 and I cannot be bothered anymore to continue. The game is so tedious that it outweighs all the fun that I was having.
I wanted to experience the story, make discoveries and fight bosses, but the game is built in a way where you need run large distances to get from a save point to a boss or some other challenge, and often you just die on the way, or the boss kills you in a few hits.
This often devolves into a few seconds of boss fight, few minutes of running back to the boss, over and over again.
I wanted to like the game, but I just cannot anymore.
Overall, I regret buying the game and wasting my time on something that at the end of the day just left me frustrated.
I beat Hollow Knight.
I even did like the "Path Of Pain" - and it was glorious fun.
But Silk Song is just too much pain.
I'm frustrated. My hands and fingers hurt.
I can not encourage myself to go on.
Every new part of the map is twice as hard
as the previous one.
Upgrades do nothing to none to make you stronger
or more resilient.
If you're not good at the game it punishes you with the need
to grind for the currency.
I'm seriously thinking about a refund because this game feels like
a rougelite - and I hate them all.
2 stars are for visuals and soundtrack - and I'm happy I paid for the music.
The game itself is just a big disappointment right now.
Team Cherry seems to have decided that the problem with Hollow Knight was that people enjoyed playing it. That's not a mistake they repeated with Silksong.
This game will do its best to let you know that you aren't supposed to play it, and you should take that advice.
