More frustrating than fun

I've played for 13 hours and I think it's time to throw in the towel. The first day I played was more frustrating than fun but I assumed I just needed time to learn the controls. But it's now the third day and I'm still not enjoying it. For me, the game is 20% fun and 80% frustration. The game has way too many traps, explosions, double-damage enemies, trap rooms that seal you in and spawn waves of enemies. Bosses can kill you in just three hits so you die instantly without getting a chance to learn their move set. Runbacks are long and often involve navigating spike-hell areas with parkour sections. After 13 hours I still haven't found any upgrades for my health, nail, silk, or any other tools that would meaningfully help me compared to the starting gear. This is partly because everything costs beads including benches, fast travel, and maps, so I never have enough to spend on upgrades and I don't want to grind for beads. Expectations plays a role in this. I expected a game similar to Hollow Knight which focused mostly on cozy vibes and exploration. Hollow Knight did get challenging eventually but it was mostly towards the end and mostly the optional DLC content. I believe Silksong could be just as great as Hollow Knight with only minor tweaks to healing, damage, beads, but as of this launch version I simply don't enjoy it.

An F.U. to Hollow Knight fans

The first couple of hours of the game are quite alright and feel pretty good, but very quickly you come to realize how brutal, unfair and punishing both the combat and platforming are. Initially, your movement is very limited, but you will encounter basic fodder enemies that move faster than you, take no knock-back from your hits and just charge through your attacks and hit you. Nothing you can do about it. Basic fodder flying enemies are the end-game bosses of Silksong. Their speed and erratic movements will destroy you while you flail about like a noob, even after more than 10 hours of play. Many basic enemies hit for 2 damage, just like bosses do. The platforming is equally brutal, especially with Hornet's early down attack, which is a diagonal downward movement. There are areas that are extremely frustrating to traverse due to this. At this time, I fought only 3 or 4 bosses, I think. A couple of early ones felt good, but the last one especially felt unfair. It was mostly due to it summoning flying enemies, which are the absolute end-game bosses of the game, more dangerout than the boss itself. It took many tries to defeat this boss and I cannot say it was skill that won the day. It felt like I just got lucky on that attempt. To this point in the game I have not been able to upgrade my health or weapon damage, but it feels like I should have been able to already. Speaking of bosses, combat rooms return, where multiple enemies spawn in succession and you have to defeat all of them to unlock the door to continue. These have been far more difficult than any boss so far. I would like to believe that the brutal difficulty and time wasting tedium is just a matter of balancing that will get polished with future patches, because as it stands, this game is not at all welcoming to new players, except maybe Dark Souls elitist masochists. In some ways it feels like an F.U. There are some good things too, but I hit the character limit and can't tell you about them.

Disappointing

Game is overall very good, as expected, but noticeably lacking compared to Hollow Knight. Likewise, it really feels like the devs got annoyed people mastered the first game and have purposely sought to make the sequel as irritating as possible. If you are new to the series and looking to pick this up due to the hype, dont bother, youll be miserable.

It's tedious and hard

I am only 2-3 hours in and it is already noticeably harder than the first game. It also carried over some flaws from the first game, like: bench placement resulting in 5min boss runbacks; you still need a charm to pinpoint your location on map. Not my cup of tea, I guess.

it's okay i guess.

it's okay, I really really really want to like and enjoy this game but itfeels like they took the final difficulty of the original and made that the new base with none of the benefits of being at end game. The game runs really well even on my potato PC and looks beautiful the general exploration is really fun but there's a lot of things I have gripes with, the 45 degree angle dive kick feels bad to use, regular enemies hitting you for 2 health being a fast frail attacker stuck in a tight boss arena where it spawns endless waves of adds isn't all that great in my opinion either.
