Fun game
Well I don't play computer games at all anymore, but the Quest for Glory series was my favourite thing as a kid. I really appreciated the complexity and depth in the game, the humour, non-stereotype narrative (ie we some dark evil overlord killing innocents and taking over the land) though there was definitely archetypes but they held some surprises. I appreciated the positive focus on family and friendship, the fact that it's not all just hack and slash, the skill building through practice in the same places rather than endless side-quests, the humorous references to the original QFG series, the characters as having been generally pretty kind to each other - I mean there's just a good vibe, the surprises, the unique way of battling and navigating with a thief character (traps, sneaking around, running away and throwing knives instead of engaging in direct combat), the fact that reputation and relationships are important and affect the storyline outcomes and again, the humour and lightness. I missed some of the more fantasy-wonder elements that the original series had, which had felt more magic somehow. I think that's probably just funding. I really hope the Cole-team get some more funding to complete sequels but also to expand and extend the game, which is a good game as it is, a refreshing game as it is and more development could turn this series into a revolutionary game.
