Heroes of Hammerwatch

very streamlined game that is a rogue like dungeon crawler with constant permanent progression. the classes feel all different and fun even to someone like me who just sticks with one character or one class for almost all other games. even if one dislikes rogue like games like me, this is a pleasant constant fun. even if i die, i always progress further get my characters and look forward to dive right back in. the game starts off very simple and easy to understand, but branches out into good complexity of gear setups you choose for each different class. it does not feel like a story is missing, due to the simplicity of the setting of the game. you move with wsad and it just feels right for any action rpg and i wish all games of that genre would offer this control. i did not know how much i needed this game to take a way the cloud over my judgement. so far no other action rpg i played valued my game time as much as heroes of hammerwatch. maybe other gamers feel like me - mistreated by constant disappointing grinds and shallow design traps allowing broken metas due to bloated clunky implemented complexity. if you come to like heroes of hammerwatch, you will most definately always be able to come back to it and enjoy the honestly endless grind of a game which values every moment you play.

This game is a progression-based action game, with puzzles that are based on skill and attention (not my forte). And it sucks you into its weird little bubble from the beginning, with its weird enemies, random items and annoying saw-traps that ruin your life. It also has a lot of items to find, with synergetical effects, and with a lot of randomness, some of your runs will be much easier - until the damn chest renders your critical thinking void and you die to the saw-trap, again. So far, after 50 hours, I am still far from finishing the game, but I am still progressing nicely. So it is not overwhelmingly difficult, striking a balance between very difficult skillgame and you-can-succeed with some grind and grit (I hope) as skill is not my strong suite. I do not mind that I can play the game including the dlc om Mac too, using Playonmac, That is to me an added bonus worth mentioning. I hope you have a lot of great moments with this game, and with this game coming to consoles soon too, there should be a lot more players to play with in multiplayer, if you are into that. I've been playing this game with my brother for a bit and it is tons of fun. We both like rogue-like games such as Binding Of Isaac and Enter The Gungeon so this felt right up our alley. Highly recommend unless you hate rogue-likes.

I’m having a lot of fun playing this with my friends. The start is a bit slow when playing solo, but it picks up steam quite a bit later on. Gameplay-wise, I think one could call this a »Casual Diablo 1«, where items are more like powerups. Levels, stats and skills remain. I especially like that one character beating a boss benefits all the other characters in your account, the Paladin for example increases all your other character’s armor rating.

The game took everything Hammerwatch did, polished it, and presents it better. Higher replayability, co-op, and great items to boot! Nice job and would really recommend.
