Hedon Bloodrite merges Hedon I and II into an entirely hand crafted 20+ hours singleplayer experience inspired by not only the best retro FPS games of the 90s, but also games like Arx Fatalis and Thief. Hedon mixes high octane action with exploration and puzzle solving, creating a challenge that encourages creativity and wit.
➣ An exotic world of lore and secrets
Embark on an adventure across an underground world where ancient and medieval civilizations meet with uncanny crystal-powered technologies.
➣ A dark, eerily comfy atmosphere
Immerse yourself in the whistling of cave drafts and the humming of the mossy crystals as you ponder your next move.
➣ Brutal, gory, fast-paced combat
Shatter your foes with a lined-up axe throw, lob acid at them from your potion launcher or ignite them with the flamethrower included into your goblin-crafted shotgun.
➣ Complex, non-linear, handmade levels
Sharpen your wits and your sense of exploration - there won't be many arrows to point you through the mysteries of the Underworld.
➣ A touch of RPG (Bloodrite-only)
Travel between Hexen-style level clusters, interact with a variety of characters, complete secondary and hidden quests, and watch some of your deeds and approaches have an impact on the world.
➣ Good company (Bloodrite-mostly)
Lead the orc daughters of the Iron Division to victory. They will prove their worth when fighting alongside you against the armies of chaos.
➣ A multi-genre soundtrack
Going from tense to serene ambient, with occasional kicks of heavy metal. All spiced up with a few Alexander Brandon tracks that never made it in Unreal and Deus Ex!
➣ Six difficulty levels
Changing not only the damage taken or how many progression clues you get but also the individual monster and item placement of each map.
And don't forget the Bearzerk difficulty that completely changes the gameplay by swapping your regular arsenal with special melee weapons.
➣ Fully moddable
You can mod and make maps for Hedon just as easily as you can for Doom.
➣ DRM free
You buy it, you own it.

Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
I bought the game because I liked the Warcraft looks and art, and it was quite good. A little heavy on the exploring and puzzles and I mean, a lot of walking from point to point but after a while I got used to.
I don't remember when I purchased it but I remember the anouncement of the second part which I got free of charge. Bloodrite had more focus on what actually happened before things went south and involved a lot of characters.
I think it was fun, I'm not an expert/snob about gzdoom games but I like shooting monsters and fantasy elements so I was pleased with how this game turned out. I liked the music, weapons and over all the passion of the creator that shines on it, that's why I purchased the dlc, we need more creators like Zan.
It's not often I want to jump right back into a game I had just completed, but Hedon is a gorgeous world packed with so many little details and fun combat that I can't wait to experience all over again.
An ambitious take on on older engine, Hedon is well worth your time. Particularly with the second act, it veers into a more quest based experience than linear shooter, so keep that in mind if you're only in doom engine games for the gunplay.
I had a blast with this FPS. It's a great mix of gory shooter with light rpg elements and enough world building to keep you interested. Music is godly Graphics are retro but art direction is really good. Game is also fairly long.
It plays like a mix of Unreal and Half-Life.
There are numerous scripted sequences and non-combat sequences.
There is a lot of reading you can do. Sometimes you have to read to understand what to do.
The music (when its not just ambiance) really screams Unreal. It feels to me that Unreal was the primary inspiration for the game, but I am not the devloper so I can't speak for what feeling they wanted to create.
But it's also interesting, because some maps you re-tread in different ways. It builds a somewhat cohesive world. Very interesting.
In the end, it's its own thing, but definitely old school.
I think it's pretty good.
The art style is interesting. It definitely comes across as indistinct. I mean that... that's the art style. Soft shaded low-res art with little to no linework. Typically when you think spritework, the linework pops because there are usually so few colors in the sprite work. Here, they appear to aggressively shade the art so it doesn't look as much like sprite work any more. It clearly is, though.
The main characters are interesting. Sexy, scantily clad orcs. The player character being a half-demon made me want them to play into her being like half-succubus or something. That's never really gone into. There's a world told, but not much for character stories, just what happens in the game.
